WD40 wont remove the copper deposit from the rifling ,i use i montana copper killer, push through on triple twill patches, just a couple of drops on a patch push a couple through leave for 10 min then push a few more through, the you will see the patches come out dirty ,once they come clean i push half a dozen dry ones through.when clean & dry i run a clean mop through, you dont mention a mod ,i spray wd down the mod to sort out moisture but use a carbon spray to clean it . When your gun came out of the factory it came with a clean barrel so cleaning it should not require you to" settle it".If you have not cleaned it for a while it will take quite a few patches before it comes clean, check zero ,if you clean after use it will stay spot on .

I was advised not to clean my 22lr at all. Is this correct? Also been told never to use wd40 if I was to clean use a silicone spray!

No expert just what I was told by gun smith when I asked same question. He told me to occasionally clean around the breach and magazine but to stay clear of the rifle as leading will be enough lube it needs.

pete if they were ment to use full of shit they would send them out of the factory already dirty ,the wd40 i use on the alloy mod to stop condensation which there prone to,like any precision piece of machinary,( because at the end of the day thats what they are), works better lasts longer if its kept clean ,the rifle dos'nt need lubrication down the barrel at all .Finish cleaning useing dry clean mop....Wd will get rid of moisture on outside of gun But proprietry cleaners are better in my view .cheers
