Rifle Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could possible help me decide which rifle to start with. I'm after a .243 so I can go for fox and the occasional Deer on the land I shoot but was wondering if anybody could recommend a accurate and good choice as I'm fairly new to it all. I've been looking at a Tikka T3 Lite, Browning X-Bolt and Remington 700 SPS. im not sure what these are like so very open to other options!

Thank's a lot.

tikka's are nicer than the remingtons and are just as accurate.

if its a stalking/hunting rifle go for a tikka lite

if your interested in target shooting and some long range varminting go for the remington heavy barrel.

just to twist things the weatherby vanguard v2 comes in a lite barreled version guaranteed to shot 1" groups at 100 yards but it should as it pillar and glass bedded i think there well worth a look as a weatherby will no doubt be my next rifle

I owned a rem 700 vssf fitted a duel trigger and loved it.......did some outrageously long shots and it grouped like nothing else.....I wouldn't of wanted to lug it round that much it was fairly heavy....

I would expect a rifle to clover leaf at 100 yards.....any rifle that won't should be scrapped .......

We have these sort of posts all the time and there is plenty in History.

Frankly all of those you mention (and many others) are fine, and people will tend to recommend what they have or what they aspire to, that doesn't mean you will get on with them.

I run a T3 Lite (.223), T3 Hunter (.243) and a 700SPS (.308), they all work!

I have a tikka t3 .222 which is a good little rifle the only thing I find is it's shorter in the stock tha n my other rifles I don't know if it's just me that thinks that? I have 2 Sauer rifles one is an Elegance 202 in .270 calibre and one is the new soft touch synthetic 202 in .243 calibre they are more pricey but in my opinion well worth it the single trigger can be pushed forward to turn it into a hair trigger which I use 99% of the time it's fantastic! The other thing is the way the bolt locks into the action if anything goes wrong it will blow out of the end of the barrel and not in your face a great idea! But if you don't want to spend the extra bucks then any of those rifles would do the job.

Just bought tikka t3 light s/s synthetic stock just because i wanted a rifle i could carry all day without ending up with a sore shoulder,,shoots on the money,as did every rifle ive ever bought. The rifles you buy today are all machined to a standard and as such i think its a case of get the rifle to suit the job ,if you need a rifle to carry all day go lightweight, if not then the heavy barrel is an option , good luck

Own a remington 700 and a browning x bolt, have shoot my friends t3 for years. any of the 3 will make fantastic rifles. All are capable of very accurate shooting. Love the trigger in my remington. Howa 1500 is also a lovely rifle to shoot and probably will cost you abit less, houge rubberised stock on them is lovely. All in all i dont think there is such a thing as a bad rifle. All capable of shooting good groups or they wouldn't make it to the market in the first place.
