Guest MOLLY
But how do Bee's mate Came across a large red and black bee, and on its back there was a yellow and black one. Now i thought bee's only mated in the hive, queen etc? I watched them for a while and the yellow ones tail bit seemed to be going to the red ones tail bit Then the red one flew off with the yellow one still on its back. Where they mating or was the yellow one killing the red MOLL.
borderterrier 0
http://koning.ecsu.ctstateu.edu/Plants_Human/bees/bees.html Worth a look at the above link. Has anyone noticed the lack of Wasps this year ? can't say I've seen any in the garden this year. Normally the blackcurrent bushes are covered in them in spring, not this year. TOMO 26,041
its not a very clear photo but i think its a wood wasp , but there are a number of difrent speices of wood wasp . the long thing that looks like a sting is what the female uses to bore holes in wood to lay eggs and is not a sting. Guest Duzabit
Wasps are scarce this year, probably due to the amounts of Ficam D, getting pumped into the atmosphere. A lot of queens may have been killed, but then again it could be down to climate. Duz.
