Benn McIntyre 48
Well, last weekend i went out ferreting with a friend of mine for the first time. He has been ferreting 15 or so years and I have been out shooting with him on the land plenty of times but i decided it was time i went out. I met at his at 5am, took the motorbike up to his farm in the snow (Scariest 5 minute journey ever). We had a fag and a cuppa, fed his pup. Went and checked on all the ferrets, he has 12 in total. We took 2 out with us, both Jills. This would be their first time as well, we chucked them in the box, strolled back to his house and grabbed pup, nets, shovel and thermos. Quick Stroll accross 2 fields we got to the fence line we were going to work. As it was snowing we could see that this warren was in use alot. Quick wander around then we netted up, Unfortuantely we missed a few bolt holes because of the snow. First set, was around 10 netted holes, we popped one of the ferts in and within 30 seconds a rabbit bolted between my legs out of a hole that was covered in snow. Cheeky B*st*rd! Unfortunately my friends pup is only 6 months old so we couldnt let her run on the rabbits but she was loving it! Another 10 mins or so and THUD THUD THUD, another bunny comes bolting out of another hole that we had missed! Gutted, we poped fert back down again but after her acting like a whack-a-mole for half hour we decided to move onto the next lot. Second set, only 6 holes this time. Netted up and chucked in the other fert. She really didnt like going in the holes, in and out constantly for about 15 mins, she was not having any of it. So we sent down her sister with her, the both dived in. after about 5 mins we had a thud thud thud again. BANG! a bunny shot out of a hole that we had missed, went to dive into another one.... WHICH WE HAD NETTED! she got it a right tangle in the net inside the hole which was a pain to get her out of. We searched another 2 but got nothing else. So all in all 2 missed bunnies and one that made a lovely curry. Fantastic time, cannot wait to go again. I have some pictures on my mobile but cant upload them here so will try when i get home. Cheers, Benn Edited January 28, 2013 by Benn McIntyre Quote Link to post
