bowersey 59 Posted January 28, 2013 Report Share Posted January 28, 2013 I have a Irish terrier whippet collie greyhound Who is marking holes trying to dig in to the borrow when she hears it all going on below ground ,She is also pushing cover great recall and is really keen I really only do ferreting I also 2 whippets one which is starting to slow down and spends the colder days on the sofa .The problem is the lurcxher will chase but won't make the strike she has coursed them mouthed them to a stand still will not lift the bunny gets it stopped and stand and looks at me she has just turned 12 months I have wrapped a at retrive dummy in rabbit pellet she is now diving on this and get fired up after a while when the whippets try to take it of her Do yous think this is onlya blip or should I be considering a pet home? bird 9,894 Posted January 28, 2013 Report Share Posted January 28, 2013 its playing mate, its just a game to it.It dont matter where you take it, even if the rabbit was 40yds out, it likes the chase its not got the (full) prey drive yet ,its got 1/2 .All you can do is get it a couple in the net , and try get it to hold the rabbit just befor you kill it, as once it down on the deck you know what it will do if alive so (no)_ point letting it run 30yds after it..! you can wait for it get the full pre drive, as its still young but norm most pups want to grab + kill stuff at that age but carnt catch the buggers lol, my dog caught his 1st rabbit at just over 5 months old, if you still got it in the summer try it on few daft+ young rabbits, ! 1 Quote Link to post

bowersey 59 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 28, 2013 Fed raw it has been out with the whippets took part in chasing and catching with the whippets fed it with raw with fur on the lure letting her and the whippets drag itafter a bit of teasing She ended up with half I'd Say your right Bird saying it is a game when she has one and stopped it her tail is wagging and paws like a kitten with a mouse I have spent a lot of time on her and is in the house and is one of the family Maybe I was spolit with the whippets which are two wicked wee f##kers and were doing the job from around 10 months this is my first lurcher pup I have brought up and and may-be over concerned Thanks for any advice lads Quote Link to post
