Maybe do a couple of purse nets to get started then start your longnet if you want a 100 yards set you need to knit 200 yards. I would do a couple of 50 yarders so thats a 100 yards.

Hazel is fine for pegs

You would need a tad over two spools of twine like this for a 100 yards of net to give you a 50 yarder

I would make sure you are happy with your knots before starting the net though very frustrating to find your knots are rubbish 20 yards in :)

oh and don't plan on using it this season unless you have loads of spare time.

There will be much more experienced people along shortly who have been making them for years I have only just started my self really

Im defonatly not planning on using it this season, i think ill go with making a 50yrd first, so ill need to make 100yrd of net i pursume that this is to allow for baggaging? How many meshes deep should i go ? And what size meshes?

Im not saying dont do it, but it would be rather abitious to go for a 200yard sheet of netting if you`ve no experiance at all.. Ive been making nets a tad over a year, with 120+ purse nets 20 bigger poke nets, 10 fox nets worth of experience.

It took me a month to knit 100 yards of net, and that was doing a bit most days, between 2 and 9 yards, 9 yards taking all day or all eve.

You can get everything you need from the link above. Good luck bud.

A good size is around 60" drop when the meshes are closed. For a 4" mesh that would be 15,5meshes deep and 14.5 meshes deep with a 4.25" mesh and the same for 4.5" mesh. Those number of meshes deep include the selvedge mesh.
