engraver 44
Yes I agree you should up your game a bit sounds like the place is riddled and the farmer really wants a job doing. Im in the same boat actually Ive just got a load more permissions that have some serious pigeon/crow problems. Thing is Ive shot smaller farms for years to the point where Ive more or less shot everything on them so they dont really need me anymore but Ive been going down for the odd squirrel and rabbit for years and a general plink, but in the last 5 visits Ive only shot one crow. Now Ive just got two farms twice the size who are actually ploughing some fields over as the crop has gone to pigeons. So already Ive doubled my decoys bought flappers and in the process of buying a whirley Ive need more no 6 cartridges a semi auto and 3rd lightweight airrifle, I should hope I can pull some good 100 plus bags of woodies come early spring no problem, all in all /ive spent at least another £500 on gear plus bought a landrover, but that is a little excessive but I love shooting so why not. With all due respect had I only have owned a bsa springer I doubt very much I would have got my permissions, its a bit like a plumber coming to fit a bathroom with a screw driver and a tile cutter, you are only as good as your chosen tools allow you to be, I dont think a bsa meteor is all the gun you will need I would at least look into something that can put in a half inch group at 45yrds and it will effectively double your range on the bsa break barrel, try a pcp. I have another small permission just two 25 acre fields and they have produced me the magic ton every year for the last seven years, and the woodies still keep coming just as hard come august. Cheers for the encouragement...The land owner has bird scarer's all over the place and has given me permission to shoot to pursue my hobby rather than rid him of pests-as discussed with him at the time of gaining the permission . Bagged 3 woodies and a crow this morning then spent a few hours just sitting and enjoying the peace of the land. Built a bit of a hide and picked up two bags full of crap i found lying around. All in a good 6 hours of happiness for me.I feel that both myself and the farmer feel good about ourselves. Work hard at your shooting grounds.Me i just enjoy myself and feel lucky to be able too. All the best. Barnze Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
You are doing the landowner a great service buy clearing the rubbish up! So this is a true symbiotic relationship, you get something out of it and so does the land owner! Did you enjoy the woodies? 1 Quote Link to post

Barnze 4
been on holiday and now back. Nipped up yesterday got myself six pigeons.bad news is a massive flock went overhead and settled in trees across the road, not my patch so gutted to see this happen, a good clump of woodland over there but the land owner already has shooters.Lucky bleeders.Back on my patch the ground is getting a bit drier but only seen two rabbits in the far distance. I noticed a lot of bats coming and going in one clump of trees, nice to see um,only little uns so i assume they are pipestrelles. Did a bit more cleaning up around my hide loads more cans - bottles & 12 quid in change. That was a bonus.I am back there on Wednesday just before sunrise so lets hope it dry and warm.
