I have shot dozens at 150 plus with a hornet, and one or two at 200 ish every one has dropped like a stone,45gn Sierra varminter is my preference of bullet, they buck the wind better and carry more energy than the vmax, but have shot lots with that round and a very effective round it is. Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Brings back memories does the hornet .When i first started as a young keeper [out of it now] back in the late seventies ,the hornet along with a .222 was the estate rifle. That means we [four of us]young beat keepers had the use of them either night or day and whenever they were free.bearing in mind the year ,the deer laws wernt what they are now and both rifles were used on fallow as well as fox at night and i cant honestly see much difference in them and the calibres approved today .Back to the thread ,no i never saw a fox badly damaged by a hornet but we did use soft points mind.
