Ferreting Out East

Me and vin headed out east this morning, down to Cambridgeshire , met up with the keeper, who sayed with us and helped out.

 

We worked a lane first , doing both sides a dyke one side and and a hedgerow the other, we picked up 1s and 2s from the little warrens, this carried on most of the morning till we dropped on a few larger warrens,, were the numbers increased to picking up 3 and 4 from the burys.

 

We had a few digs as well but nothing to deep,, me and the keeper ferreted a concreat base of an old building, we got 3 but missed 3,,, totally my fault,, lol,,, wilst we did this vin had hit the big time and put 7 in the bag,,, ile never hear the end of it,, lol

 

Then the long net came out ,,, to do do a big bramble briar,,, we had 5 out of hear but there was another,,, but feck would he commit to the web,,, so in the end he was left as breeding stock.

 

The last few sets produced a few ,, and last of all a dig, about 4 foot,,, I had the glory and broke threw after vin had dug most of it,,, but the rabbit was up the tube,,, so out came our trusty folding saw,, up the tube,, twist round a few times,, and I pulled out the bunny

 

 

So we ended there with 41 rabbits,, and a hare ,,, this was shot of course to stay with in the law. Cheers to vin and the keeper

Not often you see snow on the ground here in Cambridgeshire! Can't believe it is still here. Glad you had a good day Tomo: and actually found enough rabbits We've been struggling to even find the holes under the snow

Im not gonna rub it in Tomo..but he did say..oh fook that,You,ll miss em all in that big wood/bramble pile and you,ll never get all the runs with purse nets..heheee.

 

So I left him and keeper to go and do the buildings and concrete bases.. While I spent half an hour quietly purse netting every run out of the wood/bramble pile i could see.. I should have run a long net out..but couldnt be arsed walking all the way back to van to get it..So i went mad with purse nets instead..

I dropped 2 ferrets in and had 6 bunnies out nice and steady..also as i was waiting for another bolt I noticed a bunny come running down the hedge from where Tomo was..So I sent dog over and she managed to catch that aswell.. top result !

I didnt miss any of mine..lol.

 

I was down at the same spot last week on my own with the keeper just having a look around and checking where we are going to go this season...and while i was there we came across a big warren on a hedgerow that had been dug out repeatedly all over at every hole nearly..must have been 8 holes (none backfilled) . .. anyway as we were laughing at the mess they had made obviously trying to find ferret,out pops a nice little black eyed white Jill. .I picked her up and took her home..none of my mates wanted her..so im now a bloody ferret rescue aswell...she can stay though..she,s a great little grafter !
