sussex 5,777
Left home at 1 pm for a 1.30 meet with Philluk ,never met before but i made it to the meet 5min early to find Phill already there,i was hoping the partial thaw at home was also under way at the estate .It was'nt , the differance a few hundred foot makes was there to see.It looked unchanged from my blank outing two days prior. My original plan to spend a couple of hours stalking the wood then sitting up one of the high seats on the top end of the estate looking over a paddock surrounded by woodland was put on ice.!! the paddock was pure white still. Plan B stalk the woodland then sit in a high seat in the wood, overlooking a ride. Started to stalk ,faintest breeze, but noisy .so noiisy, the crunch of snow underfoot was laughable,we had a glimpe of a couple of roe does as they ghosted away.We did our best ,there was slot,& tracks but nothing was moving apart from a jogger who had decided private property signs did'nt apply to him.He had no bearing on our lack of success ,that was down to the snow. We. made our way back to the motors, quick coffee & get to the seat, there is always that expectaition when you first get up that all will work to plan , & 15 min or so phill spots charlie working his way through the young oak plantation,on to the ride, as he walks out of cover i squeak,Phill fires, charlie dies.......& that was it ......nothing else moved ,..got cold ,then colder ,then called it a day..Nice to meet someone of the forum, to be able to put a face to a name.Shame the weather was'nt more in our favour ,there will be more productive days .....cheers Quote Link to post
