Gaz_1989 9,539
mine get raw only pork, beef, lamb and chicken, with the odd bit of cabbage, carrot and codliver oil once or twice a week, don't bother with mixing anything with it. I will never go back to complete now! I fed no carbs at all for a few months but a few people told me that they really do benefit from them. So I started feeding a slice of brown bread with her evening meal and her energy levels really did increase. Hence why I want to feed a complete with the raw so I know she's getting some carbs, vitamins and minerals.
beast 1,884
for many years now i have fed raw whole rabbit carcase skinned and gutted, whole raw fish and plenty of venison bones liver flesh etc. small handful of cheap meal or a spoonful of cod liver oil mixed with bran, just to loosen the stool a bit if they are getting lots of bone. few eggs, bit of veg if i have some leftovers but not really worried too much about it; i think that dogs dont digest much matter from raw vegetables and although they are a useful source of fibre if the dogs will eat them, i dont think they provide much else. couple of mine like a bit fruit now and then, does no harm. at the end of the day, dogs are very adaptable and can do well on a variety of diets but dont feed rubbish or they will lose condition
jambay5 191
Many people who feed complete do so for convenience and because they are worried about getting it wrong if they feed raw. Of course it takes a lot more thought and knowledge to feed a properly balanced home diet of raw carcases, the right amount of fibre, bone, protein etc etc, than to just open a bag of grub and fill a bowl, but with all the BARF websites around these days there is all the information you need, and it ain't rocket science. I think that most who feed complete really just do so because it is so much easier. I think you have hit the nail on the head there skycat, and its probably not rocket science but sourcing the meat/cost/time plus storing the food can be a big factor as-well!!
