Guest SJM
Arguing aside, and getting back to the topic, is it really the work that you put in though? I find that statement somewhat naive as Ive reared a few pups that I have put a lot of time into them and allthough I can always do a good job training them, getting them to jump, carry etc, some dogs are simly better than others when it comes to the chase and the kill, some have what it takes to make the grade and some dont. Now you could put all the time and training you like into a pup, but come maturity that pup isnt what you hoped it would be, its neither fault of the dog or the owner, its just the way it goes, they cant all be world beaters. Ive seen good dog men rear pups from good parents, and the pups dont turn out, so I know its not just me and bad luck, so that kind of makes a mockery of that theory that its what you put in that matters? I do appreciate that a good dog owner can get the best out of a dog and maybe make something mediocre or useful out of it, whereas a bad owner wouldnt have the patience or whatever, but surely at the end of the day, if the dog has not got it, its not got it and all the nuturing in the world cant change nature? Guest ceredigion bull cross
Hold on a moment i read your name and couldn`t for the life of me work out why your attitude is what it is all of the lads i know in to there bulls properly and not just for show will tell you that breeding is one of the most important things of the dog maybe i have misread these guys or maybe they need to change there style of work and breeding and take a leaf out of your book mate and breed anything...I am not one of these BODS i just think if the best is there use it i have bred bull x 's and fecking good ones at that , i have a bitch out of a breeding from last year she is a sister to a dog called punch that the poacher had now i don't breed anything but i did go and buy a clean slate off Hancock to judge the abillity of a pup that has come from non working parents , exspensive experiement ....oohh and by the way why did'nt you put the above in the pm you sent me ? Simoman 110
At the end of the day its what you put into the dog that determines the end product whether the parents work or not is irrevlevant!!!! I agree you have to put the work in but totally disagree that it matters little if the parents are worked......... Quote Link to post

snoopdog 1,256
THIS ISNT ABOUT HANCOCKS THIS IS ABOUT ANY WORKING DOG .....IF YOU ARE GONG GET A NEW PUP AND YOU WANT IT FOR WORKING A PATICULAR QUARRY THEN MAKE SURE THE PARENTS WORK THAT QUARRY AND THE GRANDPARENTS WORKED THAT QUARRY OR QUARRIES .AND MAKE SURE THEY WORKED THEM WELL ..BECAUSE YOU WILL STAND A LOT BETTER CHANCE OFF YOUR OFFSPRING DOING THE SAME . ....ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT IF YOU GET A PUP OF NON WORKING STOCK YOUR JOB WILL BE TEN TIMES HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE AND YOU WILL PROBERLY END UP WITH A USLESS DOG OR A MEDIOCA DOG ...THEY ARE HARD ENOUGH TO TRAIN AND GET THE DOG HOW YOU WANT IT ..SO WHY MAKE IT HARDER FOR YOURSELF Quote Link to post

Tikka T3 0
hi i will give my opinion for what its worth,i have personally had three dogs from dave hancock and i will say that they have done the biss for me i have had a half cross collie grey blue merle 2 three quater collie greys and they have all been very good lamp dogs and ferreting dogs proving to have good marking ability and being very steady my mate had a dog from him a dog that was about 5 months old and it proved to be trouble but i put this down to its age and not being bothered with. but speak as you find they were all good and i would buy another from him,as for dave he always welcomed me .as for the conditions at his kennels ,well the pups were always well fed when ever i went there and were in tip top condition, i know there are people out there that speak without personal experience of these dogs and you are always gonna get it but if you are prepared to work with a pup i think your on to a winner good luck t3 Quote Link to post
