sandymere 8,263
My reply back to them Dear BBC Complaints, Unfortunately I feel it necessary to once again contact in regard to this matter as your response has completely failed to answer the main issue. In your reply you state "in the studio discussion Miranda made it quite clear that she was specifically referring to the use of powerful dogs to chase down and attack badgers, deer and foxes". Now I may be getting on in years with a less than perfect memory but as I remember it the presenter was actually reacting to a guest having the audacity to raise the plight of farmers. By her change of complexion and facial expression she seemed to be about to have an apoplectic fit and replied with an ill thought, unscripted and erroneous splurge. Bearing in mind I'm but a poor old chap from Devon with little intellect, unlike you well trained and educated people at the BBC, would be kind enough to send a transcript of her statement or even better a clip so I and others in the countryside can see exactly where she specifically referrers to baiting rather than legal country pursuits. Perhaps a simile will illuminate my point. "Imagine a section of the programme is about illegal blood sports this is then followed by a presenter blurting out 'there's a new thing Golf, people use metal clubs to go out to illegally beat deer, badgers and foxes to death'. Do you not agree this would give the impression that golf is an illegal blood sport? Now of course as golf is well understood it would of course be seen for what it is but in the case of lamping it's quiet likely this will be the only information many members of the public will have about it and so will be taken at face value. Perhaps a more balanced section on the programme by the young lady in question about country sports with reference to lamping might answer the many complaints I believe you have received. Lastly it's of course not at all condescending of you to tell me how I feel, "We understand you felt" but if in future you could please stay with the facts i.e. the transcript, and I'll tell YOU how I feel. I feel the BBC has historically been very good at covering up after its presenters and it would seem this culture remains. I look forward to your reply Edited January 24, 2013 by sandymere
