bunny tickler 876
Ratting with ferrets is good fun but if you've got a prized rabbiting ferret i'd keep it well clear of rats as they can get nippy after constantly battling rats and thry can be badly wounded/killed by rats. Sam right on there sam very true Quote Link to post
hedgemumper 37
takes a good ferret to stick at a few rats . my dad did it for a living and the best line of ferrets we used were first cross and three quarter cross polecats .they are fearless and will stick at them all day .most other ferrets wont wear the collar . fitchet 788
Ive seen ferrets get some worse kickings of rabbits far worse than any rat. I ferret rats with mine regurly. Hardest bit is finding good sensible terriers. Atb  ........your kidding right.............? No. I had a ferret lose an eye after a kick off a big buck rabbit. Never had it with a rat. d.nelson 9
is it true jills are better than hobs for this line of work? anouther thing in his book Quote Link to post
ferret100 47
Really think it depends on a lot more factors than the sex of the fert. Not impressed by these, but make what you want of them... Very different from ferret coming across rat in natural environment, but gives an idea of what goes on. Mind you, no idea how long captured rats exposed to weather or gone without food/water, so a well fed/watered rat down a bury could be a different story. Atb. Quote Link to post
d.nelson 9
cheers think ill just stick to the air riffel for them for now at least till i get a ferret im nt as found off as 5 i have at the min are reasonable rabbiters one for whatever reason doesnt like field burrows? but would hunt a hedge burrow all day and ether bolt or kill in matter of minutes might not have killed but be on its way to doing so Quote Link to post

ferret100 47
Sorry d.nelson, do you mean you'll wait until you want rid of a fert, then use it for ratting as if it gets injured you'll not be bothered? Quote Link to post
d.nelson 9
i didnt say that but wasnt far from thinking it Quote Link to post
ferret100 47
i didnt say that but wasnt far from thinking it No one hear likes to hear of ferts deliberately coming to harm. Hunting has a very poor view already, best not to make it worse. Just be glad your not the ferret you've taken a dislike to eh? Quote Link to post

Just making a version of a tin hat here, but appreciate pro and anti points of view, don't believe either side is always right. Atb. Quote Link to post
