Hob Throwing Jills About???

Recommended Posts

I've just noticed this morning that my Hob has started throwing the Jills around and is trying to mount them. They're all last years young and 1 of the Jills is his sister so for obvious reasons i don't want her getting caught and i don't want the other Jill getting pregnant just now as she's turning out to be a great wee worker and i don't want to interupt her progress. I had planned to get him vasectomised so that i could keep them together all year round and for him to be able to bring them out of season every year.

Is it possible that the Jills are coming into season this early or is it just a case of him hitting sexual maturity? I spoke to the vet a couple of weeks ago and he basically told me to check to see if his balls are there yet. He said as soon as they're there i can get him his vasectomy.

Just spoke to the vet and he says i can get him done this Wed. Will they all be ok together until i get him done?

Cheers

No not visibly as he has a thick winter coat but i can feel them easily so they are there. I can get an appointment for him and get him vasectomised on Wed. My plan was always to get him done sometime in Feb so that he can bring the Jills out of season when they start in the spring

Sounds like he's dropped his balls and is in season my hobs are the jills arent you but he still might rape them so you might want to separate him ,and remember even after he get the snip he till fires live bullets for a while so you will need to seperate him for the required time

Will a hob with his bits intact, still try it on with a spayed jill and fight will other hobs to get her. Reason i ask, is i have 2 hobs and a spayed jill, as ive never had a jill before all the hobs have been kept together even when there in season and i have never had a problem. What are the chances of the hobs fight and is it time for there nuts to be gone?

Not being cheeky mate but your question has nothing to do with the original post. Maybe you should start a new thread with your question

Airgun, fair enough, just thought i would post it on here seeing as its a similar issue, saving people having to post pretty much the same bit of advice i.e get him done, seperate them etc

No worries mate. No malice meant. It would be easier to start a new thread to get the proper advice

They're still together the 3 of them but he was getting a bit rough with the smaller Jill (his sister). My main concern is that he hurts her badly. She did retaliate and fended him off but he seemed persistent this morning. It's all stopped for now but as i said...my fear is that he hurts them.

Is there a danger he could kill her? I take it this is common behaviour in ferrets? It's my 1st ferrets since i was a lad.

Thanks for the info

He's just horny and trying his luck but she will retaliate as she's no in season and as your getting him done on Wednesday i dont see there being a problem as he will be too sore to bother them for a bit them he should be infertile
