ferret_uk 4
Just took my gun to see what preasure it was shooting at and got the bed news of it been 9.6lb which i know is no good to nobody. What can it be that is making it shoot at such a poor power? I was thinking the spring but is there anything else that could cause this? Thanks Ferret_uk Quote Link to post
Tron 173
Check your breech seal first, or it could be the minus temperatures could be thickening the lubrication inside creating drag. Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
what pellets .light pellets give high power .if it has a mecanical problem the spring may have snapped .the gamo bsa springs are rubbish .I did a little test .not to say tron is wrong it was a little test .I found in the cold spring guns give a little more power .the grease may thicken but there is very little grease compared to the stifferning of the main spring .If the spring has snapped then the gun may be a little grindy feel when cocking the gun.there could be other reasons . silentshot1 206
If the spring is fine and the gun is still consistent and accurate to your hunting ranges, I wouldn't worry! My lightning was great, until I bought a chrono and discovered it was at a constant 9.8ft lbs. I thought it was ruined, but truth is it had been that way for months and I didn't realise. If the gun is consistent and your aim points haven't changed then nothing has and it's just a number. 9.6 is still plenty to be hunting with at normal ranges. If it's needing a service, then there are plenty of gunshops that can do it. I was quoted £50.00 by my local shop for a service and spring replacement. Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
just thought if your gun was dieseling the piston could be damaged Quote Link to post

Agree with Silenshot1, my Mk1 lightning is shooting at similar power and I have found it to be pretty accurate because of it. It doesn't cause me any issues hunting so as long as it is accurate and consistent, then I shouldn't worry to much. If it was louder, twang or noisy when cocking it then I'd definitely get it looked at as the spring could have snapped as mentioned. I hear the maxi-rails are difficult to get off if your thinking about doing your own work Quote Link to post
milegajo 595
I believe a spring compressor is a must due to the design of the Lightning. Don't know where you got the idea that 9.6ft/lbs was "no good to nobody", I detuned an SMK TH208 to 7.5ft/lbs for predominantly short range (15-20 yards) squirrels and it was not only a delight to cock and shoot, it was deadly accurate and never failed to kill humanely. georgenottingham 7
Milegajo is right. I have a qb78 which for some reason people don't like. I understand there chinese and cheap but once stripped cleaned de-bured and polished I now have a super accurate 9ft/lb rifle at 25-30yards. Yet to be dissopointed. I'm sure all you require would be a good clean and check you spring. Atb Quote Link to post

georgenottingham 7
Once you have used one you don't understand how sweet they can be. Money isn't eveything. Also very cheap and easy to repair if anything was to go wrong. Quote Link to post
ferret_uk 4
Thanks for the replies lads i have decided to get the gun serviced first before getting a new spring, Also when i spoke to my local gun dealer he said he had problems fitting the titan xs no1 to a lighting. The spring went into the gun but then the gun would not cock which then he decided to order in the standard spring from bsa which fitted perfect. There is also another titas xs spring that fits the lighting apart from the no1 does anybody have any idea what no it is? thanks again ferret_uk Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
I put a titan xs spring in my lightning .It fitted ok .but I had to use a spring compressor . It shoots 11.8 with light pellets 177 .so in a 22 i would think you would have to chop the spring down a bit .I put a fitted spring guide and a top hat in my gun at the same time.To change the spring is not to hard .To change the piston seal is a biggish problem so leave that if the spring does the job .When the spring come out you can tell if it is broken or collapsed. if so that is most likely the problem . ferret_uk 4
Think i have done all my homework now and have decided to go with the Titan xs spring, Any idea how much these are supplied and fitted from a shop? Thanks Lads Ferret_uk Quote Link to post
