Dheff 6
I just dry them out with salt for a few weeks, then tie them around training dummy/ball Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
That's what I was thinking but wondered if they taste salty would it put the dog of? Although I suppose he shouldn't really CHEW them anyway. Quote Link to post
stinkers 102
I just dry them out with salt for a few weeks, then tie them around training dummy/ball I just dry them out with salt for a few weeks, then tie them around training dummy/ball What you do....just smother the inside of the skin with salt and leave them or do you have to hang them or what? Wouldnt mind giving it a bash. Quote Link to post
Dheff 6
I just coat the skin side with salt, you will see the moisture saturate the salt within a few minutes, brush all that salt off then re-coat with salt and leave them to air dry for a few weeks. I don't hang them as the salt would fall off, I just lay them on a piece of cardboard in the garage. The benefit of this method compared to tanning is that the scent of the rabbit is left on the skins too. ATB Dan Quote Link to post

Guest long-tail
i usualy nail it out on a board before salting but dont suppose it matters to much Quote Link to post
muddy 6
The way I do it is cut around the rabbits neck, then peel the skin back over the rabbits body and legs. You will end up with the skin inside out in one piece. Put the dummy against the bottom of skin then pull it over the dummy. The skin will dry to the dummy and last for months. Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
That's a good idea, does it not start stinking/rotting tho? Quote Link to post
muddy 6
I've never had any trouble with smell or rott as long as you let the dummy dry out.I gave a dummy to a mate 2 years ago and he's still got it. The best thing about this way is there is no messing about salting and trying to tie a split skin on, you can simply skin the rabbit put it on the dummy and away you go.It dosen't matter if the skin lasts a day or a year it's so easy to just put another skin on.
