stinkers 102
All set to go this morning, went off to my new permo with high expectations of a good bag.. Met the farmer he told me which fences were on so as not to get a jolt. This permo is a lot of hedgrows and ditches so was looking for a few sets that i could net up with just purse nets......no point trying a mahoosive hegderow with one stinker and just purse nets. Found a nice little 3 holer on a bank going down to the river looked failry well used so netted them up. Sent the stinker down and he popped up again then disappeared again. Nothing .....oh well onto the next one. Found a single holer fairly big entrance and fresh droppings so netted the hole sent in the stinker ...nothing.. Carried further along the bank and there is some serious holes all with a drop of about 40ft if you mislace your footing and being so wet and muddy i didnt fancy taking it on by myself ....safety first in my eyes. So got to a nice spot further up a fair few holes to net up and trying to find them in dead gorse was a nightmare. Sent the stinker down and was down a fair while with nothing happenning, got the locator out and he was 7ft down and not moving...........oh no please no . Now this is a fairly steep side of the bank and fairly sof under foot but still didnt fancy the dig. Moved further down the bank to see if he was closer by moving down but the pinpointing was better further up and still 7ft. Wait it out i thought see if he moves on. About 3 minutes and he's on the move...thank god for that. Out he pops further along....fur on his claws ...well i like my ferreting but im not gonna dig 7ft for a bunny...unless me stinker was still there So moved up hilll to a nice corner of a hedgerow and set up about 10 nets and sent him down......30 seconds and a bolter.....straight into one of my new handmade nets......whooop whhoppppp. . so down he went again whilst i was getting the rabbit out of the net. Waited a few minutes no sign of him.....went round the side there he is totally gnarled up in one of my nets on his back looking pretty damned sorry for himself . Well it made me chuckle but he'd got himself in such a state no way to untangle him and he was getting fairly snappy and frustrated so cut him out and headed back towards the farmyard. Saw a nice rabbit jumping down a set on a little mound s thought it would be rude not too. Only 6 holer and a mound about 6 ft high. Netted up and sent in the stinker. About 1 minute later another bolting bunny straight into one of my new nets (yes i like my new nets ). Great job sent him down another hole and nothing. Mved closer to the farmyard and missus on the phone..when ya home. About 5 love....its now 4 . Saw a little hedgerow with fairly open looking set when i drove in so headed down there. Netted up about 20 nets and sent the stinker in. Popping in and out and basically tking the piss by going in and out of the same bloody holes. Then he dissapeared, got the locator out and im on top of a bank with a stone wall underneath and its showing 2 ft and not moving. Then i look don and theres my stinker down near his box and the locator is still showing 2ft........his collars come off. He goes in a hole and im like oh f**k. Its starting to get dark and he decides to feck off with no collar...my fault but still :icon_redface: . So up on top otf the bank looking either side and then he pops out about 30 ft away ....by time i scramble down the bank and grabing the fecking electric fence in the process......yes i got a jolt........he's bback in the fecking hole. Thank god i was by myself must have looked a right fecking tool :whistling: :whistling: . So i new he was around that area so back on the bank again was there for about 10 minutes and no sign of him. Was starting to panic as light was fading quickly. Went back down to where the collar was showing and found a small hole in the undergrowth that i never spotted when netting up and when the locator was near it, it was showing 2ft so decided to dig by hand at the hole, it was raelly soft soil and stones were easy to pull out ...low and behold reached my arm in and managed to feel for the collar.....thank god. Now to find my stinker. Had two rabbits so took the liver out of one and reverted back to the old school ways.......banging around theentrance to the set and with a bit of liver too in the hope of attracting him. Now i swear to god my stinker is the biggest fecking pisstaker ive ever had......im banging away at the set and praying to f**k he's gonna come to it........and then i feel an ever so familiar feeling on my leg......theres my little fella clawing at my leg like he does all the time :boogy: :boogy: :boogy: Could have throttled him and kissed at the same time. So all in all it was an eventful day, but thats the joys of ferreting and being honest ......you cant beat days like that.....im not fussed about big numbers in the bag, its all about getting out and doing a bit, and a couple for the pot so cant complain. Now the other point i found today is by jesus christ......then spun poly nets.....there the dogs dangly. I nly had ten made up for this session and my crap bisley ones.....well trust me if your using them Bisleys and then use a spun poly you will hate the bisley afterward ......i set a few on the last set and ttally different....so much shit picked up on the ...the spun poly just take the up and near enough wrap em and put them in the bag....one happy chap, now to crack on and make a few more up before the next outing. Think he's got it the wrong way round....bunnies in the net not you ya fool He's learning Edited January 20, 2013 by stinkers Quote Link to post
