Getting The New Ferts Out

Recommended Posts

Myself and kranky got a few kits off j1985 last year and to be honest we haven't got them out til now due to mostly lamping and very little ferreting this season, but the ferts needed feeding so we decided to have a couple of hours out at my place and a little social to talk rubbish and a little swap shop :)

As I said it was at my place we met so I had no travelling to do happy days, boxed up the ferts let the dogs meet up and have the obligatory tear around to get it out of there system.

I went for my polecats today, terry the rapist is well tried and tested and never fails to get a bolt and shady my fert off j1985 who's never been to ground, kranky had a pair with him to so we were looking forward to seeing how they would get on.

We hopped the gate and walked across the field to the tree line which has a large amount of burys in it,my dog saw a rabbit out and put it to ground and wouldn't leave the hole so we thought we'd start there at least someone was at home!!

We only netted up a few holes so we could give the dogs a run,I entered my 2 pugs and watched happily as they both quickly entered with no probs from the newbie,we sat for ages with no show of pug or rabbit while black staff and his pal rocked up for a few pics and a day out in the snow when a rabbit bolted into the field and the dogs gave chase but it got into cover,a good 15 mins later when I'm thinking a dig is on the cards 2 rabbits flew out of a netted hole sox held him while paddy took of after the other that had escaped the net.

I lifted shady and let terry carry on as he wasn't finished yet shed worked well and had gone deep in so I was happy with her,we had a bolter that sox took in fine form so 2 in the bag.

We wandered up to the next bury which my daughter had seen rabbits hopping about earlier and there prints in the snow confirmed it as did my dog marking well, this time we used krankys ferrets both untried they entered ok and we waited again only netting the holes we could see.

We lost 3 rabbits to that bury and worse 1 of them slipped a net that I set so much taking of the mickey but the ferrets done there bit the dogs had a few runs into thick cover and it was nice to see the lads in daylight.......Christ there an ugly bunch!!! :)

All boxed up and black staff took a few pics in the now very heavy snow and all back to mine for a brew, trading of catties, ferrets and good old blackstaff handed out a few pheasants from yesterday's beating good man :)

All in all no big bags, not long out but a very enjoyable couple of hours.

Thanks for reading.

Nice write up bud  Was nice to get out for a couple of hours and have a chin wag and catch up. Fingers crossed this cold weather stays for a bit and we manage to have a few full days out. Couple of pics from today. I didn't take many as the snow was quite bad and didn't fancy ruining the camera :D

My dog's got an elegant style when he jumps those tall gates! Lol!!

A good mornings sport, it was nice to get the pugs going and let the pup see them at work. She wasn't too much of a liability, I think the little lunge at the Jill was just over enthusiastic play. Lol!!

How's that catty working out, Blackstaff? You were hitting well with it.

She's fine. She got out of the box in the motor and climbed up onto the parcel shelf. Both the dogs looked at her and ignored her!! I've put her in that big hutch on her own until that court turns up. She gave me a little nip when I put her in the hutch but it was nothing.
