martinclay 1
what mixture do you use in your smokers ? thanks Quote Link to post
charlie nelly1 142
its mainly the fumes that drive em out so just the usual ratio will be fine, or just add a splash more if you think needs be Quote Link to post
ollywilli 49
My chain saw spews out smoke, justa drop of oil and its a localised fog, but I believe its the make of saw!! Either mixure on our last couple of tips didn't bolt the little scaleys. Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
I use a old hedge cutter motor and dont alter the oil but run it with the choke half on to richen the mixture, wether the smoke bolts them or not is open to question but what it does do is help to show up the bolt holes you might not have otherwise seen , buster. CorkyJohn 808
Too much smoke I think overwhelms them, normal mixture give it a blast then turn the smoker off & wait. Too often you see people revving the tits off their smokers non stop when their really is no need Quote Link to post
ollywilli 49
that's interesting what you've both put. We was smokeing one a few months ago and you could actually see where the tunnels went with the smoke coming up through the soil. Then back to good old faithful digging Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
To add I believe its the fumes not the smoke that gets them to bolt Quote Link to post

mick81 275
I think smokers work now and again , for me I like to see the dog mark and u dig the rat out but following the dogs nose , digging in front of terrier , trenching till the dog either finds the nest or makes it bolt to the other waiting terriers , smokers do work , but most time the rats either sit it out are come out f****d not able to run gassed out by the fumes ,I just stick to digging them, had a few yesterday round the pheasant pens . CorkyJohn 808
Thats fair enough mick but I cant imagine killing numbers digging them if you dug the pens/gamecrops we did you'd be on weeks mate. Smaller spots fair enough but the keepers on the estate we done wanted as many killed as possible in a couple of weekends at the end of the season before they started putting poison down. It was a 2hr drive mate so we couldnt just pop up there through the week. Quote Link to post

No didn't work, but it was interesting. Digging always seems to work for us best, smoking doesn't seem to work all the time only now and then. Quote Link to post
