Na malt the cars back then never had abs power steering etc etc. the roads were not as well built dual and motoways were in there infancy , it the people whinging moaning fookers. The media want fooking as well. In some parts of europe you would get fined for breaking down in the snow or skiding with rhe wrong tyers. This country needs to take a long hard look at its self or at least the shandy drinking south does lol

ABS is fecking shit in the snow anyway, you ideally need the wheels to lock and it compacts the snow in front of the wheels and it builds up a wedge which helps you stop. ABS can actually increase the stopping distance in the snow under normal braking conditions as I found out the first time I ever drove an ABS equipped car in it! It's not so bad on ice and muddy roads, but I'd rather drive a car without it in the snow if I'm honest, and maybe without it full stop..

Was getting my ass kicked on Tuesday for a site being behind in Caerphilly, they closed it on Friday cause of the snow..... Ffs we're putting wall panels on... One of my gang foremen was on the phone at 7 in the morning, saying he thought he'd struggle to get home blah blah.... I had a local job for him and he was a bit pissed off he couldn't just get home for Midday.... At my expense.... Health and safety and the excuse to do nothing culture does my head in.... It's any excuse for some lazy b*****ds....

ABS gives you the ability to steer when the wheels are locked up or sliding in the snow, rather than having to dip the clutch and steer in the opposite direction on a non ABS model

Only if your pushing it and loose it in the first place Paul, you shouldn't be in a situation where you locking your wheels up in the first place IMO.. There's an art to driving in the snow, low gear, no sharp breaking or acceleration, slow down well before the bend.. My statement was about driving appropriately to the conditions, not trying to regain control once you've lost it, and I reckon I could bring a car to a stop in the snow quicker with a non ABS equipped car.. Few people can actually handle (not just drive..) a car these days in normal conditions, let alone in adverse ones..

Then you should know what I'm on about then mate! :D:yes: I know you're old enough to remember driving without ABS because I am, and I honestly preferred getting the feedback from the break pedal when you had full control of it. I was going through what you might call a misspent youth when I first started driving, and you soon learn to correct yourself and how to regain control of a car on the mental back roads round here that are covered in mud, cow shit and whatever else the farm wagons leave on it if you enjoy getting from A - B quickly and joyfully, unless you enjoy reversing out of hedges or bouncing off banks! Question for you mate, if ABS is all that and is such an aid to the driver, why don't they have it on rally cars and track cars?
