I was just wondering which do all of ye prefer a ferret who would stick at and get the bolt a ferret that would nail the rabbit down the hole ???

Everyone is going to say one that bolts. Nobody wants the risk of digging if it's gunna take time or be a hard dig (Tree roots, stones, drystone walls, etc.). If people would rather it nailed in the hole, we wouldn't bother with purse nets or long nets or dogs. We'd all just carry a bag of rocks and block up the holes.

Bolter everytime....less hassle of digging. But part and parcel of ferreting is a dig now and then....and its sometimes welcome of a freezing day

I'm sure of a farmers looking rid of them all a nailer would do the job for the ones. That don't bolt

Thats the same ferret, one that sticks at it until it bolts, or kills if it does not.

I tend to use smallish jills as i find they kill less and i dont do a lot of digging. But when my ferret gets onto a rabbit i find it gets dragged all over the warren as it cant overpower it. Some say if you have a good sized ferret it will make a kill and stay in a location to dig ( hopefully not too deep! )

if my jill cant bolt a stubborn rabbit, i'll use my hob to kill in, and dig to him they both play their part, but bolting is better craic
