Matt 160
Domestic jobs and including my own house!! I ended up trapping mine at home in the end. Out of interest, was that Mus Spp or Apedemus Spp? I'm wondering whether field mice would find it quite as palatable? I've done two jobs with it. One was a huge grainstore where it was very good, the other was a gardencentre/farmshop where I used some Octablocks (freebies from Pestech) to clear the job up after the first week. Bromadialone is pretty much finished for mice down here, which is a shame because the new(ish) Deadline paste is very palatable. The Octablocks seem very good, which is a relief with Ratak blocks being withdrawn, and I still get good results with Romax Mouse DP (the same as the SX product). Quote Link to post
moxy 617
I was just thinking if you was using it in loft spaces as heat rises it normally pretty warm up there, would this be the reason it wasn't working for you, maybe? No. Sachets were not touched. Also one situation was at ground level below the floorboards. At the end of the day I suppose it's horses for courses. I have had situations on farms where rats wouldn't touch wax blocks but would eat grain and vice versa. And again with the palatable pastes and grains. And vice versa. Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Moxy/Matt what is the theory of the poison not working over a certain temp? Quote Link to post
moxy 617
House and field Matt. I suffer badly at home with house mice due to my location and neighbours. Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Tegater. I can't comment on alpha as it hasn't provided any rewards for me. I'm not discounting it but until it proves itself it will remain on the shelf. Without having the SDS on my lap I can't recite operation temps. I'm sure Matt can Quote Link to post

Matt 160
Alan Buckle in Rodents and their Control, says: Alphachlorolose is a narcotic with a rapid effect. It slows a number of essential metabolic processes, including brain activity, heart rate and respiration, inducing hypothermia and eventual death As I understand it from the manufacturers (Lodi) it has a very bitter taste, and the problem has always been getting enough of the product into the animals. By micro encapsulating the active ingreadient they've got round this. Like Moxy, I've had rodent infestations that don't always read the hype about products and sometimes refuse point blank to eat certain formulations. I have to say that I was impressed with this product when I first used it, and while it seems quite expensive, you don't go through much because of the time limitations when using it. I've gone over to none toxic baiting on all my contracts now, and it's childs play to stick a sachet on a bar into a bait box when you get a nibble on the non-tox. Black Pearl has had some rave reviews on the pest control forums. Quote Link to post
Froudy 40
Matt as you changed over to non toxic is this just to monitor your contracts or is it the non toxic poison "can't think of the name of it" which kills rats due to the fibre in it? Quote Link to post
mole trapper 1,693
Bought a tub to try, mixed results, one farm office the mice were very clued up but when I used the pearl they were done for. Domestic house should of been easy, they Would not touch it and it has pretty much carried on like this, sometimes they will take it others they don't want to know. What I do like though is if they do take it they are found inches from the box. Quote Link to post

No, I wouldn't waste my time or money on the corn cob rubbish. I've gone over to 100% non-toxic monitoring on contract sites. I use the SX Watchman bait for mice and plain whole wheat for rats (or nothing at all depending on the site). As Mole Trapper says, one huge advantage to Black Pearl is the fact that the mice die very close by. That means you have less smell problems as the bodies are much easier to recover. moxy 617
Interesting MT. Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Matt I hope that's true. I have had 8 jobs over the summer using the snake cam to locate rodent bodies in Asians houses after DIY b&q pest control has had it's affect. Quote Link to post
Froudy 40
Cheers Matt, nice to talk to people who do pest control as well who use different stuff than I do to get there opinion on it Quote Link to post
tegater 789
Some interesting topics on the trapping forum recently thanks to people in the know Thanks Quote Link to post
killbilly 17
Tegater is that the same stuff they use for bird control in other countries? Yes Europe and I think in Ireland. It is safe to use if done properly I believe, and non target species can be brought round again by bringing into the warm, but illegal in UK. It was recently banned in Ireland for that purpose. Was killing too many non-target species and pets. Only allowed for rodents now indoors. Like the UK you can only cage-trap and shoot birds classed as vermin now.
