Dogs That Dont Run When See Rabiits

Recommended Posts

Ive had sevral lurchers with this annoying trait including Bullx and Beddyx. I think it might be a more natural state of hunting rather like a lion stalking an antelope. Rather than being half hearted the dog might be trying to be more cautious in order not to loose the kill,as they might if they depended on the meat for food. Personally I find it annoying.

I dont Cant beat a bit of feather

iv answered your question you simpleton.... my dog changes down a gear an hits the bunny in its seat, but she aint stalking, whats so hard to grasp???

others have said the same thing, but its me thats hiding from the question... you pal are a clown, you have been offered to come see, yet you hide behind you dont want your dogs stole???????? clown

Is that the reason he won't come up to you? Incase his dogs get stolen? Lol.

why dont you go up if your so intersted pal..........?

the guy has asked, just as the snow hit as it happens, im sure he will be here before you :tongue2:

I certainly will. Fell out with Reddawn a while back. Thought he was a right bell end. Then realised I was being naive and he is a very knowledgable bloke who just doesn't take any shit and says things how it is.

I've asked to go up and as soon as the weathwr is better and he invites me I will be on my way...

mind and leave the sprocker

I've had both types of dogs, the ones with the gung ho bust a gut attitude and the more reserved thinking type, in my case they were collie crosses.

A common misconception is that dogs that stalk are not really trying which is simply not the case, they just have a different way of hunting and hunting is exactly what they are doing.

There's a lot of factors to take into consideration, type of ground, volume of rabbits etc and if you do only get a crack at say half a dozen rabbits on an outing it would be a pisser if your dog was stalking and perhaps missing out on catches, it's also a bit of a bummer if you like an up and at them type of dog.

In the right conditions however a stalker is worth it's weight, the best bag of rabbits I had from one field was thirty six with a first cross collie greyhound one wild night, the majority were out the seat and very few got a couple of feet. Straight back to hand, back out for the next ignoring all but the rabbit in the beam and also ignoring any others on her way back.

I think most people like to see their hounds batter down the beam like they're at least trying, stalkers give the impression they're not. In the right time and place however and it's bodies you're after rather than the sport they do the job.

.

i agree 100%, iv never said stalkers are shit, i just said they wasnt for me, but im glad somebody has seen both types work, its the age old saying, 1 mans gold is another mans shite..... horses for courses, i have never said stalkers dont catch bunnys, all i said was mine dont stalk, i actually work full collies aswell, an they stalk, an it catches gear... just not what i want in my running dogs......
