With squirrel I usually take a slow walk from tree to tree and wait for movement between trees, but I havent hunted them for a while, pigeon I would wait in spots near where I think they land based on the amount of droppings etc, usually when they come in to roost....so basically squirrel I slowly stalk and pigeon wait,I use a hw100t and the safety is silent so is yours louder than Standard? Good gun all round though I highly reccomend them........

In my experiance for succesfull squirel hunting a slow quiet walk through the trees moving from tree to tree stoping from time to time and sitting quietly for a few mins. There are times of the year when they are so preocudied with feeding that you can be quite un stealthy and still manage to get shots but generally quiet stalking is the key. For the pigeons, tuck yourself away somewhere that you know that they come into roost.

hope this helps

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=64-KBvHp_3c I use the same method as this. Build a feeder, fill it with wheat, build a hide at a distance that is good for you......then wait. I have shot 53 in about 3 months. Mines in a wooded area right next to my house so it's really easy for me to go out there. I have a hide set up that's 13yrds from the feeder. I would have liked it a bit further away but any where else and i haven't got a clear shot. I have a leather seat in there with a back rest, buit in some foot rests and tables on either side for tea and biscuits. I have shot squirrels, rats, jays and magpies on it. Shot them with AA S410, CZ 452's in 22 and HMR, .a Bakail 410 and Winchester SX3. Screw a piece of tin with a hols in it around the hole that the wheat comes out of. This stops the squirrels chewing a bloody great hole in the feeder if it starts to run out of wheat.

I find the best thing to do is copy the advice from a person posting before me and post is as my own

Sometimes this is your only option as others answer so damn quickly,I've been reading threads and posts forever but never get the chance to get my 10p's worth in as the q's usually answered pretty quickly so its a good job ive been round a mates drinkin til late and don't want to wake the wife or I'd never be here at this time to read and answer q's

Im not knocking your shooting ability mate but you need to make sure you can actually hit it and kill it with one shot.

Practice at different ranges until you can get all your shots inside a 2p piece, which isnt too hard with an HW100 as long as you do your part ;)

Scout out the land and look for signs of feeding then set yourself a feeder up, that way they are feeding on your terms and will normally make a static target once youre set up within your target range

Happy shooting!!

On my favourite Squirrel shoot there are small clumps of very tall and old Oaks/ Beech, Ash trees with thick shrubbery at ground level at various points on the land joined by ancient and heavily wooded hedges of mostly Blackthorn that separate the pasture fields. So I'll take a very slow walk around the land. Not with just Squirrels in mind but Woodies, Magpies, Rabbits etc. Later if that doesn't produce the goods I will sit quietly in a very pretty mixed tree copse behind the farm. Obviously covering my face and hands, this copse is in the middle of a hedge line that follows a small stream. The hedge is used by the local Squirrels as a kind of highway between other wooded areas on the land and can be quite productive between October and March when there is not much leaf cover. As the light fades the Woodies roost in some of the taller trees so there is always a chance of a few bonus Pigeons as well. After a rest and hopefully a few swizzers I'll take another slow walk following the same route as the first time and with the same species in mind.

Look for the movement in the trees as you wander round, but bear in mind they will see you moving as well. When there is little or no wind you'll actually hear the Squirrels moving amongst the tree branches.

On other permissions I have with more extensive wooded areas I will walk slowly round these woods looking for a flash of grey or some telltale movement. If you memorise the place you see this movement and scope it, you'll quite often see a small head and a little beady eye looking at you while the swizzer tries to judge if you are a thread or not,.

I think its safe to say, different types of land will need a different approach by yourself, so it very much depends on the type of land your permission is on. The only real way to find out is to go there and have a good look around and see for yourself.

Nice little scope you've got there, should be ideal for shooting squirrels in a wooded area - low mag and wide field of view.

Just looks like its mounted too far forward, unless the eye relief if quite large on those little simmons :hmm:
