Bsa Lightning Refurb.....

Recommended Posts

Howdy folks....

Well, here's another one of my refurbs..... A Realtree dipped BSA Lightning in .22

This one was in a bit of a sorry affair when I got it and it beats me how/why people actually do this to rifles but I was hoping it was going to come good....

The state of it when I got it....

The breech had been battered with what looked like a hammer and chisel and was deformed....

Someone had obviously fired it whilst the barrel was broken hence the split stock...

The undersides were scratched to the point it had gone through the realtree coating.......

Underside of the barrel was scratched, obviously leaning the barrel on a hard surface when firing....

and then it came to the chrono testing......

Over 5 shots with RWS Superfield 15.9gr this was the best reading.....

Stripping the rifle I soon found out why.......

The breech seal.....

The internals...... How many springs is a rifle supposed to have???

The spring......

Piston & Seal

And so the refurb began.....

Straightening the breech..... This took some doing..... About 2 hrs of heating using a blowtorch, tempering with a socket & bar, dowelling the breech I finally got it the right shape.....

Split stock widened, glued, drilled and screwed back together internally...

New parts..... The old breech seal was boiled, squashed and sized to cylinder....

Finished chrono results after a 5 shot string with RWS Superfield 15.9gr......

The finished rifle.....
