GypsyJoe 36
Just aquired the above rifle, in almost mint condition, from 1953, power is at legal limit and it's surprizingly accurate for old, open sighted rifle. I have had a few bunnies from 15 meters clean headshots it's a beauty. Even the 'webley rifles inscription' behind the barrel is intact. I would like to get it re-blued, or do it myself. Anyone done this ? is it easy or should I get a pro-job Also it ALWAYS pulls high and right, I aim off to compensate but have tried sight adjustment, don't want interfere with the sights to much, pretty sure it's not my fault as I've been using open sight rifles for many years any thoughts? thanks very much EDIT***************Thanks for all replies so far, I had already adjusted sights as much as I dare, they are very sensitive and since I'm hitting the 'bull' by aiming off, think I will leave them, maybe the pulling high thing will iron itself out. Pellets wise I have tried lots, I would never shoot a living thing unless I have practised to the point I am sure of a clean kill. The best ones turned out to be 'Super sharps' and 'Super hollow point'. The reason I'm considering re-blue is because I live in a waggon it is always damp, there are a few little rust spots, but I left rifle in spare room, the dryest room for a few days and the rust had taken hold. Cleaned it all up, no lasting damage but the rifle was coated in PTF spray which seems to have done nothing to protect it. Would re-blue protect it a little better? thanks Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
to sort out left and right you can tap the rear sight on the side and make it move in the dove tail .IT MAY COME LOSE IF YOU TAP IT TO MUCH .up and down just get used to it .I did once file some metal of the top of my sight when I was young and stupid to correct it .A bit of a failure .I would not re blue gun my self .I would shoot and use the gun a lot .then when I new the gun working properly and my shooting with it was correct .I would adjust the sights left and right .try different pellets . 1 Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
0r tap the front sight .one of the sights may be obviously of center . 1 Quote Link to post
barrywhite 282
or you could put a new front sight blade in the gun that was higher than the present one .It would have to be made special .light pellets may drop the shot because they leave the gun sooner that heavy slower pellets. So when the gun kicks up the light pellet leaves the gun first and as the gun kicks up more the heavier pellet leaves the barrel second 1 Quote Link to post
moxy 617
I wouldn't touch the metalwork. If its almost " mint " it can't be that bad. It's a very rare occasion that a home done blueing goes well. Well enough to last. Unless your a pro or a very adept amateur. 9 out of ten attempts I have seen are shit to put it bluntly. If you must. Send it to somebody but I would just give it a good and regular oiling. 2 Quote Link to post
