Working Dogs As Pets

Why don't you tell me why keeping dogs inside makes them shit. I'd like to hear your views?

 

For one thing houses are generally nice and warm, I think if you keep a dog in a house it'll get used to being warm and comfortable and then it won't like going out out in the wind and rain as much as a dog that's kept in a shed.

I also just don't like the idea of any dog being inside.

Hi lads, what do you think of keeping working dogs inside the house as pets?

 

The reason I ask is I was out lamping with a man who does and his dogs were shit. A buddy of mine does a lot of rough shooting and he said that any pet dog he'd seen had been shit too.

Any working dog I've had has been kept in a shed all day and only taken out to exercise and work them and sometimes let them follow me around the farm and if I do say so myself they were all fairly good.

 

What are your thoughts on this?

best lamping dog i had was a house dog makes no difference in my eyes

same here buddy ......but when he missed some things on the lamp........i used to think to myself,see if you were in a kennel......that would have been dead

caligula you do realise a dog does not get the conception of "time" whether you are away a day or an hour that dog will go beserk when he sees you.

i keep mine in the house,cause ive always had a dog in the house,and it would feel strange without one kicking about.

i dont think it makes a blind bit of diffrence whether its kept indoors or out.train it properly and bond with the dog,and he will serve you no matter where he beds down at night.

i keep mine in the hoose,but i would not mind keeping them kennels....there will not be any difference in the feild,my dog would get the same work,excersise,bonding,walks,food,etc....so why would were they sleep make any difference?

are you talking about the security side of things,so the dogs don't get stolen?...........the simple fact is you get shite dogs in houses and kennels,and great dogs in houses and kennels

their bodies adapt to their environment (same as ours do) if they live inside their coats don't look as good and they seem to feel the cold a bit more when working.

not all chew or wreck the house.,but your right on one thing,there coats do look different when kept inside,they tend to be a lot cleaner and in better condition.

if your dogs chewing stuff in your house,thats your fault,(i personally give them bones?)........i don't think a the kids feeding them the ood biscuit is going to affect their working ability.....and as for the coat yes it will be different,but if the dog is getting plenty of work it should have a good coat on it indoors or out?....

my terriers got a liking for chewing wires,you can't leave him anywhere near them even if he's got a bone.

 

and depends how greedy the dog is,when my lad was a toddler he fed a pack of frozen burgers to my birds staff,then I also got the pleasure of cleaning up the giant sloppy shit he left for me In the kitchen that night.

 

 

working dogs are meant to live outside mate,if you're really that lonely try this site mate.
