Working Dogs As Pets

Recommended Posts

Hi lads, what do you think of keeping working dogs inside the house as pets?

The reason I ask is I was out lamping with a man who does and his dogs were shit. A buddy of mine does a lot of rough shooting and he said that any pet dog he'd seen had been shit too.

Any working dog I've had has been kept in a shed all day and only taken out to exercise and work them and sometimes let them follow me around the farm and if I do say so myself they were all fairly good.

What are your thoughts on this?

pet and working dog lives in the house 24 hours day 7 days a week, who ever says that they won't work when kept in the house talk SHIT

The problem is that there are loads of shit dogs around, both kennelled and in the house. Some people base their opinions on just one or two examples, and think ever after that it is set in stone. Ins

Some of my dogs are kennelled, but some live in my waggon, I can assure you my dogs working ability does not suffer from being allowed to sleep by a warm fire, that thing about it affecting their work

Can't see how it would make a difference to be honest. My mates got a house dog that works and its a awesome worker.

I keep my dogs outside but that's cause its easier for me and my life style not because I think there better workers outside. Atb

We let ours into the house but after a bit they want back outside , and the reason i think is being kenneled would give them a thicker jacket , but weather you keep them inside or out has nothing to do with bonding

i wouldnt say its the case with all dogs but the best dogs ive had were when i was younger and were kenneled, now ive got a missus and kids dogs live in and what ive got now are deffinately softer as a result,

Stop cuddling it and letting it sleep on your bed then

Why don't you tell me why keeping dogs inside makes them shit. I'd like to hear your views?

For one thing houses are generally nice and warm, I think if you keep a dog in a house it'll get used to being warm and comfortable and then it won't like going out out in the wind and rain as much as a dog that's kept in a shed.

I also just don't like the idea of any dog being inside.
