Batteries For The Lamp

My 12v 18a lead battery is on its way out and before i replace it i want to find out peoples opinions about lead batteries or lithium batteries which is better/lasts longer before it needs a charge.I know the lithium is lighter to carry about,but if thats all it has on the lead battery then ill stick to lead.So if anybody with experiance of both types of battery could let my know their views on them i would be grateful

I use lithium because they're lighter but I also have a couple of 7ah lead acid ones.

If you're not bothered about weight, stick to the lead acid. A 7ah drycell lead acid burglar alarm battery costs 25 to 30 euros here in ireland. You can take two of them if you're making a night of it then switch them if your lamp starts to dim a bit.

i have just got a lithium from using lead sealed i found out you get alot longer on the lithium than the lead sealed i was out last week for 5 hours and the lithium only lost 1 light now if i was out with the other it would have needed a very good charge so i would go the lithium route pal i wasnt f****d eather from the previous nights lamping

 

there is a lad on anther forum selling a lamp and a 14 am lithium he is asking £200 for the lot its all brand new

ive got 4 brand new 12v 7ah batterys never used brand new free if you pick them up pal just gave 3 brand new 17ah batterys away you could have had

lithium mate , wouldnt go back to lead acid , i know the price is a turn off but there worth it in my opinion , i get a good night and more from a 14ah using 50watt bulb , small and light enough to put in your jacket pocket too .another plus point for me is the battery state indicator . back when i used lead acid i seemed to do half the nite with a full power beam and the rest of it with a gradually fading beam , not really knowing when it would give up . i believe a lithium will stay the same and then just stop working when its exhausted , atb with whatever you decide to get , phil

I went out an scouted out some perm to see what was what lastnight, got there at 10.45, left at 2.30-3am, and my 10ah lithium is still got full charge on gauge. This is with a 140 lamp though..

The price difference is certainly significant. If you're in Ireland you can get two 7ah dry lead acid for under 60 euro. The 14ah lithium will cost you 250 euros.

I still prefer the lithium but if price is an issue and weight isn't then go for the lead acid.

there heavy as f**k ged i will only use one as a last resort now lithium all the way for me they are so light compared to the other but they are a prety penny

i use a 12v 24 amp lead acid and ca use it 2/3 times out without charging but its not light like a lithium so depends what u want to carry dont notice the lead battery till your climbing fences and it swings round and cracks you in the gut

Thanks a lot people for all the replies some good and bad points for both batteries the lead heavier,cheaper and alright lamp time,then lithium good power indicator,light weight and good lamp time.With my old lead battery to keep it at its best the manufacturers recommend you charge after every time its used weather you had it on for 4hours or 1hour.The only lithium battery ive every had is been in my mobile phone and the manufacturers say with the phone lithium battery to keep battery life length to use all the power from battery before you charge it.Would the lithium battery for the lamp be the same charge instructions as phone one?.I use a light force blitz lamp it gives great light some would say it gives off to much light and lets other animals in neighbouring fields see you coming long way off even with red filter.Ive been told the light force lance is a great lamp to use as it gives right amount of light to get job done and is easier for dog to follow beam esp if dog is learning.What are your views on which lamp is best blitz or lance?
