baw 4,360
I've started teaching every pup I've owned in the house mate. Throwing pair of socks and blocking its way with my leg. By time they've had their jag at 12 weeks they f*****g love jumping. 1 Quote Link to post
pip1968 2,490
nothing better than seeing a lurcher jumping fences while chasing a rabbit 1 Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
Yep i see what your saying. Done it with my lurcher pup But the whippet was house bound with 2 broken legs and im sure you can understand once she was walking the last thing she would have been doing was jumping Edited January 17, 2013 by Blue Pocket Rocket Quote Link to post
baw 4,360
Lol blue mate, I wasn't aiming my initial comment at you. You said you've taught your other dogs to jump mate so you know how to do it. Obviously there are exemptions like your whippet mate I'd be surprised if the fen guys lurchers can jump Quote Link to post
troter58 1,711
mine tow jump very well but the bitch will sumtimes just be a stuben twat and refuse from time to time never seen a dog towing another must be some sight flat batterys are a bugger on these cold mornings Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
I'll put my coat over wire if I can - can save the odd wound. My 2 larger dogs had to learn - there's no way I could lift them over anything. The others learnt in the garden, and the pups by following the group out mooching. Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
Got a little bitch here that can be a pain in the arse when it comes too jumping but can some times be a life saver I understand what can happen when a dog is off the lead on just a general walk as her brother keeps me fit sprinting 4 fields after the c**t on just a general walk with no knife in the pocket but he can make life very entertaining at times but can put so much more game in the bag maybe just a little more hassle I find if u have too take that extra time too get them too jump then too just do it naturally so even with the hassle I would still prefer my dogs too be able too jump Quote Link to post

cocker 2,655
My dogs will jump ANYTHING you're likely to come across in the fields easily and with confidence no excuses, their straight over, i wouldn't have a dog what "won't" jump. i cant think of many worse vices, except barking and pulling up. there meant to be working dogs, why wrap them up in cotton wool when you can go and buy a chihuahua Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,819
Start them on small stuff and work up, give them a few months and then a little barrier with you on one side and the dog on the other, encourage them and they'll generally come over. Both my dogs will jump fences, gates etc on command, daytime or nighttime mooching, they'll either go under or over, no problem. Lamping they usually go under gates where possible when were moving from field to field but I much prefer it if they didn't jump a gate or a fence on the chase unless I'm in a position where I can keep them in the beam. Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
