Lurchers That Dont Jump

Recommended Posts

if my dogs are at heel or not chasing they will jump on comand if the lurcher is chasing she takes every obsticle in her way as with the springer jumps on comand unless out on retreive then then she does what she has to do to get the bird back to me, my first lurcher used to take deer fences with ease and my party trick when i was a boy was get her to jump the 6ft school fence what a dog she was rip orignal chinook.

Would love to have seen your dog jump fences designed to keep deer out... With ease tae!!!

you get some that dont take no for an answer and a fence is just an obstile in the way of quarry!! a deer fence is only six and half feet and no barb so its less worrying than double barb!! have you never seen roe crossing a deer fence before? some will some wont same as dogs

My dogs jump no bother, and when on the chase will jump the obstacle, but depending on some fence situation/location I will choose to lift them over, a dog that won't jump full stop is a different ket

Most people who don't allow or teach their dogs to jump state that it's to reduce the chance of injury and yes they do have a point. However a non jumping dog can also be injured trying to go through

canny jump its as much use as a chocolate fireguard mate....

If your dog doesnt jump your going to miss a lot of stuff. Here in Ireland fields are littered with fences so dogs need to be jumping. Feck lifting a big heavy mutt over fences all day. But if its a really hard fence where the dog might hang itself ill lift it but on the run i would exPect it to go over

Would you expect the dog to go over a fence that you lefted it over because it could have got hung?????

Yes iceman there are fences that are very difficult to jump from standing still but when running full pelt it should be a lot easier. As baw said if a dog that can jump pulls up at a fence its jacked

Depends on the fence and the jump really some fences are just a no go but have seen dogs clear stuff that they have no right to but seen good jumps dogs get hung up and the most easys fences. When it comes to jumping think its all about the dog having believe in its self.l dog that does not are the ones that get hung

bullshit if a dog can jump a gate it can jump any fence

Big difference in a gate and a lose fence with wire on top or double fence every fence IS DIFF

my old dog used to do it...lurcher x lurcher...25".....,needless to say your dog needs to be a very good jumper which mines was ;) .....but he did not do it with ease, and not regularly, used to get over most of the time....though took a few sore ones too....would not advise people to let their dogs do it,i was a bit younger and daft ....but ye learn from yer mistakes :victory: ......atb.....

Well ill have to take your word for it. As you say there 6 plus feet and I'm yet too see a lurcher "clear easily" a standard back garden fence never mind a deer fence. I don't for one minute think it can't be done with a large powerful lurcher but I'd say it was few and far between. And you won't see much deer jump them either.... Especially with a dog on there arse..... Christ it takes them to jump a standard fence when they panic.

pretty much what I was getting at... Can be done but certainly not regular and easily. Infact when my big lab was 3 he jumped one.... Well I say jumped it was a deer fence but it sat in a bit of a gully, the dog jumped and landed on top if it and done a from flip right over.... Lol

The dog that doesnt jump....jumps

Seriously. This is about 3 1/2 foot high. Any higher than this or dodgier than this then shes getting lifted. She can jump a 5 bar gate but not worth it....for this dog anyway

nobody mentiond deer jumping the fences while being chased that wouldny happen, ive planted and managed tree plantaions and they will under there own steam find a place to jump ive seen this with my own eyes. if the dogs you have seen cant jump a garden fence then no wonder you have doubts.

am sure some of the lurcher jumping comps at shows used to go to 7ft odds could be wrong thow a wis a wee boy when they did that at shows
