foxtails 272
in there sleeping quarters i put wood shavings on the bottom, then hay,and old bits of clothing ect, then they end up putting it how they want it, but everytime i buy hay or straw on the back it says its not for ferrets , why ? iv just bought a big batch of straw, im going to mix it with the hay and put it in for them, for extra insulation, i know ferrets curl up together and keep themselves warm, but is hay and straw ok for ferrets ? atb fts Quote Link to post

joe14 98
I just use fleece blankets. Straw and hay can get in their eyes, i also heard of hobs getting straw stuck in their bits! which then needed an operation. Edited January 16, 2013 by joe14 Quote Link to post
The one 8,504
I just give them plenty shavings mate ,problem with straw ,hay etc is the hollow stalks can habour ticks etc unless its treated . ferrets can bear a bit of cold be being too hots bad for them but unless there throwing some bedding out the should be fine Quote Link to post
Bunny Boiler 177
Hay and straw is extremely dusty. Its not really a problem usually though to be honest... Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,681
Always used straw,,, but this winter I have put straw in a cardboard box, taped up the top, and cut an entrance hole in it,, then placed this box, in the next box of the hutch,,, Cardboard is a great insulator. masmiffy 82
Mine were housed in an old shed. Floor and walls were insulated with polystyrene. Shavings on floor and lots of shredded paper for them to nest in they loved it! Quote Link to post
ferret100 47
Mine have a nest box on their coop. I line the bottom of shavings, then an old bathmat on top of shavings to help stop moisture getting through, then some shredded paper, some fleece blankets/old pillowcases/jumpers etc, then pile hay on top. Then the jills make a nest and the hobs pile in after they've done the hard work. Quote Link to post
