Paid 935
All those have more to do with internet shopping than the recession ihmo.
Strong Stuff 2,171
Agreed that it is all directly as a result of internet shopping. You would have to be some sort of dafty though to want to go into a shop, pay for parking, then pay a higher price for an item than you could have paid if you'd sat at home. If the above retailers had reduced their prices to make them competetive with the internet (and no doubt still made a profit despite overheads) them maybe they'd still be here. Strong Stuff is made in my kitchen mate, as I've always said, if I never sell another then it won't be the end of the world as I've never expanded beyond the point I am comfortable with, loads of people have suggested getting a unit or a shop in the past but I'm happy enough chugging along here with no overheads and enough materials to see me from week to week. You'll not see me on Dragons Den anytime soon!

Malt 379
only people that are flying are either lucky c**ts or bullshitters Don't believe that for a second, you look at the annual profits of the big companies, energy companies and the people flying up the rich lists... The only ones who are suffering are us mugs at the bottom of the pile.. A certain section of society is doing very well out of this recession...

PeakOil 352
My mates dad shut his high street shop down a couple of years ago. The poor impoverished landlord put his rent up from £200k per annum to £250k per annum at the same time his business rates nigh on doubled to £107k per annum. To many greedy parasites wanting a slice of your hard earned. Nowt will be left apart from the odd pub, charity shop, takeaway, nail bar, pawnbrokers and bookies breaking up the monotony of empty boarded up shopfronts.

Thats exactly what the high street looks like in the nearest town here mate, and all the time the council keep increasing rates while giving planning permission to the big stores to site out of town.. trappa 518
You could see it coming with HMV and Blockbusters. People download music now and its easier to buy from sky or download films than it is to go to blockbusters, its just how things are going. Last time i went in to HMV it was selling more films/dvds than music and it had a massive section on tablet computers, something that most would buy from a proven electric store like currys. It wont be long before WH Smiths joins the list i reckon.
