Blaise 2,322
Badger, last hunt of the season saturday the 12th of january. We are under the french law. Hunting season for badgers is closed from the 15th of january to the 15th of may. It's the period for births and growth and the main period for reproduction. We have done four attacks. It's a spot we hunt each year. A burrow with 10 holes. The first with a young patterdale bitch. Unfortunately, it found a fox and has catched it. The second one, on the same den, with a 6 years old patterdale. It found the dead fox and it brought out the den. In that case, the dogs don't want go back to the den, they want stay on the first prey. During december and january, we have this problem : foxes are in the badgers dens and our dogs catch them in silence. The third attack, always on the same hole, with a little jack russell bitch. The dog is barking very fast, we can hope a good hunt. After a search, we found the place where the dog is hunting. Half an hour later, Gaston, one of my sons, can take the badger quietly. A nice and easy hunt. We restore the den neatly, it's very important. The fourth with another jack russell bitch on another spot. "Fanfare" isn't a good dog, it like hunt, a small size and too much fight. Another fox is catched after half an hour. We restore the den neatly. The night we will celebrate the end of the season together. 8 Quote Link to post

Blaise 2,322
In most part of french territory (may be 90%), foxes are considered like vermin. So you can dig out all the time. In some parts, foxes are game. They can be hunted from september until the end of february (general hunting season). In that case, forbidden from march to august. The nutria is considered vermin, you can always dig out. Quote Link to post
