A Few Hours Out With Rabbitcatcher1

Recommended Posts

I was out with rabbitcatcher1 today for a morning ferreting on his land

We got there for half 8 and sat in the car for five mins watching a few sets we seen driving up one with a rabbit sitting out side (silly thing) we started to net up my little dog marking a couple holes at the same time trying to pull the nets back off with her head (she still learning ). The land owner pulled up for a bit crack while out on his rounds and give us a few pointers where he seen the rabbits. We started with one of Adams ferrets and one of mine in ether end I was using Jen a dark polecat Jill I got of Adam a couple of month back so he could se how she's come on , he started off with a really Bonney little Jill on her first outing , in they went and nothing for ten mins mind we seen a rabbit sitting on this set when we arrived' Adam took his little Jill out and box her back up and went to have a little look at another set very close by in case the bunny went in that one , my Jill came out so put her in the side Adam started ! As he got about ten yards away one bolted in the net that got my hart pumping ,quick dispatch re netted as my Jill was strait back in two mins then number two in the bag good start!!!. A quick hot drink and moved on this set was a good size around 20 holes the rabbits believe it or not where pulling the sugar beat the farmer put down for his sheep down in the holes Adam pulled 4 out of one hole lol, netted up and in went two ferts I was telling Adam about how good my little spade was then we heard thumping out with the finder 4 ft it was reading so as I was taking the grassy sod of the bloody thing bent felt like a right prat lol any way she started moving again then out came the rabbit in the net number 3 we moved down to the edge of the wood done a couple of small sets with no joy Adam went ahead to have a look see and came back with a smile he found a good looking set so off we went netted up and nothing I herd some thumping but reading 15 ft this set was on a steep river bank but the ferret was on the move so no digging thank god , at one point we had 4 ferrets in still nothing Adam kept his two out and took mine out and put in jess my outher polecat Jill Adam went off in search of more sets todo while I was determined jess would do me proud as as most the work she done this year have been deep sets she was working bang on at one point I was following with her with the finder she was 16 ft and deeper as I was loosing her then a little thump 1 rabbit in the net so I was pleased then another one out and in the bag she came up out the hole looking proud lol that was it for that set we set of back to car tried a little set with no look my dog Molly started marking what we thought was a little 6-7 holler turned out about 20 lol in they went jess bolted one strate away back in she went two mins later a rabbit screaming next to a hole near me put my arm in and pulled one out that's two I said laughing all the ferrets were out but we new there was a least 1 more in as we herd it thumping so I put Jenny in for the last run of the day at she bolted it within a couple of mins at we called it a day after that short walk back to car cleaned them then on way home happy with 8 in total not the numbers Adam is used to but that's my average for a day and it was only 1 o'clock so I was very happy the worst thing about today was we never took any photos at all gutted,,, cheers Adam for a cracking day mate really good stuff
