Art 20
I'm afraid your biggest problem will be getting the poacher to leave them alone. I had that problem a few years ago on some property owned by my wife's family. I couldn't solve it and gave up hunting there. I knew who the poacher was and he's gone now so maybe I will try the land again next season. When he was around I was afraid I might get shot myself. Chased him out of the woods one time screaming at him. Hate to lose my temper but he deserved it. My wife's family wouldn't even try to keep him out. They live on the property and were afraid he might do something drastic if they took action against him. That fellow was a true American backwoods redneck and no telling what he might do. Around here when the deer hole up tight in thick cover there are only 3 good options. 1) Wait for the rut. Bucks will run does and they will come out a little. Here the best time to catch them running the does is between sunrise and 11 am but might be different there. 2) Plant a narrow food plot along the edge of the willows of something that they can hardly resist such as red clover or wheat. Plant it at the edge that the poacher is least likely to visit. Then put up a high seat and hunt mornings and the last hour of the day. 3) Cut a narrow trail 100 feet into the willows and install a ground blind or tripod stand. Then cut a 10 foot wide shooting lane as long as you like beginning at the end of your entrance trail. Still hunt right in the middle of the willows. If you strictly want to stalk and no still hunting from high seats or blinds then I'm afraid you've got an uphill battle on your hands with this property and the poacher keeping them pressured. I wish you good luck. I know how frustrating it is to have access to a property and have someone else messing you up. Edited January 28, 2013 by Art Quote Link to post

Charlie in bed 5
I used to run dogs in willow plantations roe love them they are planted so straight you can normally see right down the rows ? I don't know much about stalking but i imagine if you just walked the outskirts looking down the rows you might be presented with a shot. Even if they are on the move a shrill whistle is normally enough to make them stop for a few seconds. Atb done this in the passed with fallow in willow and it worked well. Quote Link to post
