Price of pups getting out of control

Recommended Posts

Is it just me or are things getting out of hand every where you look in the for sale section pups at mad prices I thought the point of the for sale section was to get rid of a spare pup maybe two out of a litter of working stock hence the name now we have full litters out of race and show winners for sale it seems now as it turning into a pedalers paradise

Having just bred a litter of pups a lot of what is being said on here is true and then there is some utter bollocks being spouted. Then again I can only give my opinion as I bred to keep back a coupl

if you pay say 300 and get a real good dog that lasts 5 or 6 seasons its buttons really some people in lurcher world need to get there priorites right they think nothing of paying 1000s for a car or h

stockman??? how the fcuk can you make that decision at birth / coulple of hours old to maybe a day or two???]     i've never heard so much bull shit in all my life, the only way you could do it is

It's the same everywhere mate.

I would never dream of breeding for money but it seems that so many people are. Hence why the dogs homes are overrun.

I can understand breeding to keep one back and then charging £50-£100 a pup to keep messers away and cover a few costs but this £300 + for a cross bred pup is ludicrous in my eyes.

But then I guess some would say if people will pay it then people will charge it. I just paid £300 for a spaniel pup.

At the end of the day somethings only worth what someone will pay for it,wether its a pup a car or a lawnmower....allways makes me laugh when I see "pure" or "pedigree"lurcher pups advertised,as Northernlite said Gaz you paid £300 for a cross bred pup,it may be from superb parents, but it is still a "mongrel"simple fact is you felt the pup would do what you wanted and liked the look of it so paid the money, cant see the problem myself,if youre prepared to pay for what you want fair play,if you dont want to pay then dont ......simple

So you don't mind paying £300 for a sprocker BUT you wouldn't pay the same for a well bred Lurcher?

Unless you're shooting over the spaniel I'd imagine it would never put anywhere as much game in the bag as a Lurcher.

Yeh that's the point I was making lads. £300 for a mongrel is ludicrous but if people (like me) will pay it then people will charge it.

I wasn't saying my spaniel is better than a lurcher or is worth more. Don't know why people are so quick to have a dig.

imo lurchers prices are way too low. i feel sorry for people how have breed a line of working lurchers for decades and get no recognistion for it. every breeder can not keep every pup and people end up giving them because there is no point in selling a pup for next to nothing.

it does make me laugh to see pug/beagles forsale for £700.

there is no reason to breed the pair in my book they have no purpose. but people pay the money. and there are many more.along the same lines.

i think £200 is very cheap for a dog bred for a job

Not having a dig at all mate, you said charging £300 for a cross bred pup is ludicrous, yet you went out a paid £300 for a sprocker.........ludicrous really. :D

Wasnt having a dig Gaz,was making the point if you want it have it ,its very much up to the individual what they are prepared to pay for a pup,the couple with the £700 labradoodle were totally enamoured with it,was it worth £700.....it was a very nice dog but not worth that to me ,for them he was worth his weight in gold....its very simple really if a pups to expensive for you ,look at another,I also think some on here cribbing about prices of pups have no idea how much it costs to rear a litter properly, its expensive to say the least food, heat, wormers, jabs, stud fees/registration(where applicable)

I must of worded my first post badly.

That was what I was saying. £300 for a mongrel is alot. But I paid it. So others will. And the breeders will charge it.

I don't know why spaniels carry the price tag they do. I've been offered countless lurchers and terriers free or less than £100.

And as someone said above a good lurcher will put alot more on the table

200 is nothing for a well bred dog doing a job that you know that you have seen but my point is this site is full of genuine dog men who have a high standard for lurchers and terriers it takes a long time to get a good thing going with breeding it just saddins me to read some of the adds and see the prices charged
