chris k 205
Sorry to disturb lads and lasses but im needing advice here. As some of you know me and the mrs ended up in a accindent yesterday after she parked up the arse of a bmw (this years model as well). Now my car has a crumpled wing, bonnet, bumper and smashed headlight but the frames and engines 100% o.k. The problem is is that its a 02 plate and ive been told they will wright it straight off becuase its over 5 years old. Ive just had the engine rebuilt, brakes and discs are brand new and so are the tyres. It only has 65k on the clock. Is there a way to get them to repair the moter instead of scrapping it? Ive phoned a couple of scrappers and im looking at 200 for the parts need but the garage in dealing with seem to be mager robbing a holes. Any sensible help most appreciated

tattooed 3
Morning chrisk most insurance companies will write off any motor with damage that will cost 50-60% of the value of the car,if your car is worth £2000 and the damage is £1000 and your putting a claim in....they will probably write it off ! treecreeper 1,136
if they write it off its not yours. you will have already lost your no claims. it will also cost you more to insure and be a pain to sell if you do fix it. if you know what your doing you could buy it back and strip the parts and flog them then take the rest to the scrap yard. depends whether you have the time and space. tattooed 3
you can buy it back from insurance company chrisk but it will be recorded as a write off..... and the car will need a VIC check done before you can put it back on the road
The one 8,479
Aye you can buy it back repair then you have to take it to a mot station and get it checked , theres guys that make a living buying write off and repairing them but there cheaper that non bumped cars
Rake aboot 4,935
Tell the insurance comany you want a repair using secondhand spares,, they might go for it, either that or buy back as a cat D and fic it yerself.
Malt 379
Tell the insurance comany you want a repair using secondhand spares,, That's what they done with mine after someone went into it with the wife behind the wheel (apparently.. ) and I asked them. When the assessor came round I explained that I wanted to have it repaired if I possibly could and wasn't overly bothered. They agreed to repair it using a mixture of new and second hand (green) parts and I got them to keep it. Think they were gutted they agreed to it in the end though, once they started stripping it back they found it was more heavily damaged than they thought it was! They even put new oxygen sensors in because the engine management light was on, even though it was on before the car got damaged!
SNAP SHOT 194
If the total damage to fixing your own car is costing 1/3 the value of the car then it will be written of, but you can buy it back of the insurance company as a category write off, however if it is category A i think it is, ( i dont live in england) then you cannot buy the car back. but any other you can. good luck. Snap.
neil82 1,080
Aye you can buy it back repair then you have to take it to a mot station and get it checked , theres guys that make a living buying write off and repairing them but there cheaper that non bumped cars its not an mot station that does the vic check, its a vosa test station, costs a bit more than an mot as well, if your capable of doing the work yourself then just tell your insurance company that you want the salvage, then HIDE the car, you`ll get all sorts turning up wanting to collect it, only give them access to carry out an inspection to confirm whatever damage has been put on the estimate for repairs, then you need to remember that the car is yours until they make an offer that you accept, then it becomes theirs unless youmake it clear from the outset that you want to keep it, make sure its locked up somewhere out of sight, once its been picked up by the salvage yards its gone no matter if you`ve accepted an offer or not(and some of the b*****ds will even come onto your drive to collect motors, even tho thats theft)
