paulus 26
Id rather see a rabbit (or whatever) get run and hoovered up then see it bowled over by a gun. I shoot regularly but cant beat bieng out with the dogs. I do like seeing a good lurcher work to the gun especially when roost shooting. Atb me to

04fox8 168
Only thought about giving up the syndicate, not the shooting. Been in a small syndicate the last few years, but I've seen less to shoot at on the 'shoot days' than I've often seen just out for a walk about. One of the others in the syndicate thinks himself 'The Boy', and he's getting on my wick! Don't get out as much as I would like, but wouldn't give it up.
micky 3,325
I started as a kid in the 50s with a air rifle on rabbits just before mixi landed I was given a four ten in the 60s I had a twelve bore I used this on pidgeons and also went on some of the last big hare drives which were very popular once, in the late 60s I got my first 22 and a Austin champ and had the next 20 years shooting rabbits at night and lamping with lurchers ,in the 90s it all seemed to turn into work ,all the bubbles had gone out of it, I then went back to where I started ferrets ,traps and with the help off of folk on here learning to snare better, coming from a large shooting background I am often asked out on various shooting days and if I go I prefer to beat or pick up ,I may return to using a gun sometime ,who knows but right now I am happy with traps, snares and ferrets. neems 2,406
I can't see the appeal of shooting, fair enough it's an efficient if unnatural way to control pests, but sport?
WILF 47,505
If things get a bit samey then have a change or have a rest, the beauty of guns is they don't eat nothing or need walking so it don't matter if you put them away for a while
Lab 10,979
Anyway, your all talking bollox. Giving it the " I've been shooting so long I'm tired of it" sheite. All of you will be out with your mutts one day and they'll flush a snipe that will come zig zagging out and you'll all put your imaginary gun up to it and say "bang gotcha"! If you shoot, you shoot and you'll always shoot and that's that. Stop pretending otherwise! Unless you really are that bad that you've never hit ought and it was costing you a mortgage in cartridges every outing. Walk a few lonely moors with your dog and you'll wish you'd taken your gun....Guarenteed! Nothing (apart from sex) is better than pulling a high bird down and your dog bringing it to hand, going home and eating it. Free food is always the tastiest! rgds Swampy Honest ning In the event of getting some kind of 'ning' in return you are unfortunately wrong. I 'have' lost the drive to shoot.....years back its all i wanted to do, at every opportunity but now i can i really cant be bothered. Would i like to shoot the highest bird of the day infront of the guns and beaters or would i like to get a nice long hard retreive with my dog...its the latter i'm afraid. You may be right a shooter will always be a shooter and i'll never give my guns up because i will fancy that wee walk with the guns to pop the odd pigeon or woodcock. If i never shoot another pheasant in my life i couldn't care.................
