arcticgun 4,548
a way of getting some more kills maybe getting up first light and catching the bunnys in the middle of the field and fly him out the hood .this was you can place you self in the right area and hope the bunnys bolt away from you and then the chase is on , if you got alot of feather damage you could always imp the bird to keep it going once he chose to go for the rabbits, I did actaully fly him off the fist direct pursuit style out the hood, both to rabbits chanced upon or sneaked up on using cover and also ferreted bolters, he was always kept with ferrets in site and has never shown any inclination for nailing them, mind he does like stoats although he is yet to take one, but you do chance upon them lol I soon found he did not really need the hood in the way he does when stalking hares, plenty of slips even reduced the trade offs to next too nothing, always good for a few rabbits.. Ive found my favorite approiach is too simply let him have his freedom, let him off glove at a vantge point where they maybe the odd wanderer who strays to far out, he gains height and circles, often using the sun as a blind and getrs on em real low down, rabits dont know whats hit em, or ya see the best tail chases, but again feather wise it leaves a lot to be desired. He done real well far better than I expected to be honest,,his only limitations have been my inexpirience, he been flown hard to lure and hard on a limited amount of quarry, its never been a numbers thing, I did consider a full imp and return, but have decided on simply luring him for another month and then laying him up for the moult, next season he got a new friend to play with springer spaniel joining the saluki, fancy trying him on flushed ducks lol crows another quarry that has taken my eye as well, cannot wait he be twice the bird next year hopefully 1 Quote Link to post
