Spookz 5
Have been looking into buying a terrier for the last 6 months or so, with the intention of doing a bit of ratting, rabbit and the like, what i need to know is, if i bought a Patterdale , would it need a collar on whenever off the lead ? have trawled through the posts without any luck. roadrunner88 5
Yes and no depending on how you bring your pup up. Mine can go off the lead without a collar no probs. Make sure u get good at recall Quote Link to post
pernod 466
if you walk a terrier with any type of hunting instinct near occupied earths it will almost certainly go to ground. To let such an animal roam near earths without a locator on would be a bit stupid. Dont listen to the posts from folk with super trained terriers, its not worth the risk if you value your dog... roadrunner88 5
They dont have to be super trained terriers. Just basic obedience. Quote Link to post
snizle06 202
Roadrunner give us a break any decent terriers will go to ground given the chance. What about earths that would be unknown in an area. Spookz I would suggest you go for a terrier spaniel cross or similar for general mooching. Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
A good bred patt is no good if you want for rats n rabbits, yoh risk losing it to ground. A good lurcher will do the job, or a big terrier cross that wint fit in an earth. Quote Link to post
