bryanm45 787
best ive seen are plummers. best plummer ive seen is mine she is both stocky and leggy . and has no whippet in her. fair bit of bull in her though . having said that i dont do an awefull lot of ratting . just saying How much Bull is in her, is it like this. yes but a different colour. lol saxongypsy3.jpg she is exremely well built a very powerfull and agile bitch. the pic there for you to compare. Very nice Cleanspade, very muscular and broad, think there is enough bull in these terriers now as we may start moving away from what size we expect a working terrier to be, as I've found. OzTerrier 21
Wouldn't mind one of those Patterdale Terriers one day, they seem to have plenty of hunt drive and I reckon they would be fantastic for foxes over here. 2 Quote Link to post

I've done a wee bit and had 100+ bags regular and a few 250+'s and also have seen a few different types hunt and catch rats alongside mine and my plummer is the best i've seen as well as it goes mate, but if you want proof then let us know when you and Moll are ratting that big place again and i'll show you 2 Quote Link to post

Plenty of wild dogs up in the mountains though, $100 bounty on them too due to the damage they cause to farmers livestock. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Was invited by a Keeper to a shed where he kept Pheasant feed, we blocked pipe holes from building and entered switching on lights, the place was alive with them, there were a few Terriers, Russels, Pats etc, I had a Whippet X Bedlington, a Rabbiting dog, this was her first time on Rats, and she beat the lot of them. 1 Quote Link to post
keith j 1,088
well lads thought i'd have my ten bobs worth again on this subject.since my last post on this thread in January i have killed just over a thousand rats,on one particular hunt we killed over 250 rats ,there were over ten dogs present and as many people[not ideal i know as i prefere to hunt with two or three tops.]two dogs were mine my plummer bitch and merle collie bitch,my plummer accounted for at least 45 too 50 of these rats my collie 30 or so.there were couple of border lakei's, patt ,beddie and the odd lurcher thrown in all these other dogs were decent rat killing dogs that maybe killed rats a few times a year, but they were a disorganised rowdy bunch there lack of experience was obvious.on the other hand my dogs are experienced dogs and that showed as on that day my dogs accounted for the most rats and my plummer was by far the best dog on the day. ive bin back on these hunts a few times by invite and my dogs come up trumps every time accounting for the biggest bag . I myself hunt rattus every week at least once on a friday night by lamp, they bush few times a week and ferret and lamp rabbits.what i;m trying to say here is that you get out of your dogs what you are prepared to put into them, most terriers of decent breeding will make top grade ratting dogs as will the odd whippet or spanniel ,but for me it has to be collie,s and plummers happy hunting to you all what ever the breed, keith j. 2 Quote Link to post
