Outlaw Pete 2,224
Okay. I've tried so hard to resist. But, I just have to know; WTF is a Siberian P Throat, please? I'm sure I've heard of a Siberian Ruby Throat. And that would indeed be an extremely desirable bird to an aviculturist. But, a 'P Throat'? It's killing me with curiosity!

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Good god! And it commands That sort of money? Blimey! I had a mate who kept native birds. He bred cinnamon house sparrows. They just never appealed to me. Though I'd have loved a pair of normal, ABCR sparrows off him. But, I was a smoker at that time. I never had an aviary and couldn't see them lasting five minutes, cooped up indoors with me billowing smoke. Now, I no longer smoke. I have an aviary. But, I can't keep native birds because that would be considered a 'potential conflict of interests' with another interest of mine. Bloody marvellous, isn't it? Just can't win! £225 for a Goldie though? Wow! And gone just like that? Some serious people out there!
fireman 10,869
Same markings as a normal goldfinch but like Elvis says it has a pea sized white dot below the beak and the Siberian bit is birds who are originaly from scandinavia and northeastern europe over to Siberia, these birds are generaly bigger than our own natives but don't imo have as good a colour as normals do.There are more mutation colours in the sibo/northern birds than our natives but like i say you just can't beat a normal native finch for colours. Why can't you keep natives Pete?,can't be because of other animals unless you keep spars in your aviary . Edited January 14, 2013 by fireman
fireman 10,869
Pete that money is about right for that bird but if you want to see silly prices go look for a white or yellow bullfinch pair,£1000 a bird mate or maybe £1500 for a pair.

Now that's interesting. I somehow had a hunch the Sibe's would be bigger. I've always noticed how show standards seem to call, first and foremost, for BIG. I just equate big with unnatural. It's just me. But, I like things to be as nature intended. I've never been interested in Showing anything. Hence I don't 'get' the thing with lilac coloured Greenfinches, or what ever. I like mine green The duller colours though? I'd not heard of that before. I'll look into this. And, do I take it this is a naturally occurring phenomena, found in wild birds as well as captive bred birds of the region?

That's just breath taking! I saw a Bullie, wild one, just the other day. Marvelled at its beauty. If I saw a white or yellow one? I'd think it was just wrong! £1,000?! Now, if I saw one? I think I'd have a f**king heart attack!

It get crazier with the colours as imo the poor coloured birds are bred and sold as pastels and they go for more than normal colour ,i say imo as some will argue there different where as i don't,i just think there washed out poor coloured birds.I do keep a few colour mutations myself but you are right in saying a greenfinch should be green and i think a normal coloured Bullfinch cock is one of the most wonderfully coloured birds on the planet and to pay a grand for a white one baffles me.
