CorkyJohn 808
Does anyone use one? I have a 'One 2 One Mk2' ultrasound which I bought from a mate. He purchased it with a magbox from a greyhound bloke but never used it as he hadn't received any instructions for the unit. Any advice appreciated as I've tried to find a copy of the instruction manual & might just list it on ebay yet, thanks Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
Yes, for the last 12 years or so, although mine is pretty elderly now. Great for checking tendons etc in dogs and horses, and pregnancy in slimmer dogs - mine hasn't got the oomph if they are too wide, and for looking for grass seeds in paws, abscesses and the like. Taz-n-Lily 62
There are two types of ultrasound units - diagnostic, and theraputic. The diagnostic one works quite well in human medicine. There is no validated research to show that theraputic ultrasound actually works in humans. To the OP - try a Google for your US model instructions. Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
I'll try & post a photo of the unit . I was told it was for treating injuries & targeting specific areas like wrists etc. I was led to believe it works in the same way as a magbox does so am I wrong in describing it as an ultrasound? Thanks Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
Nope, I assumed diagnostic, as I have never heard any evidence that using US for for injuries did anything much at all, as it is meant to increase blood flow to the area - which if it is already damaged, will happen anyway. I have seen people use them for horses - working the muscles on the quarters, but as far as I see it, that is just a high tech version of a decent grooming or wisping. We have a ton of old manuals for US and other machines at work in the store cupboard - I'll have a dig around tonight and see if there is one that may suit yours Quote Link to post

brazer 287
The US does generate the blood flow and heat to the injured area to help the healing process. If you intend to use the US ensure you have the US gel and move the scanner in small circular movements this will prevent burns. PS have the dog checked out after you have finished the treatment eo ensure a full recovery ATB Quote Link to post

sandymere 8,263
ultra sound might perhaps help with some problems, certainly will do harm to others, one of those where if you don't know exactly what your doing don't do it. Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,820
Ultrasound therapy is a pretty standard medical practice in humans for certain ailments. No idea whether their is evidence for it but physio's use it. Did me no fecking good mind! 1 Quote Link to post
