Please dont laugh!

Went out for for a very long walk yesterday on my own, with the little terrier bitch, and two of this years jill kits.

Basically trying to cover as much of the high ground prospecting whilst on my own, without the old feller I can move a bit.

Last year a few rabbits were starting to show in a few pockets in the second season after the winter wipeout, and I was hoping we would be able to make a light return to the rabbiting we had done for years, but within the first couple of hours, it was apparent that the rabbits and land we had left alone for the last 3 seasons, is in no rush to bounce back. What few rabbits there were last year are now gone, looks like the mixi I had seen last season had knocked the recovery on the head, crying shame.

Me and the old feller had talked over the last few years, with him saying quite a few times he wont be around to see it come back, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'll be in any type of shape or age to see it how it used to be.

It took until 12 oclock, after approx four miles of walking, until a few signs of rabbits and I got my first mark. had to put a ferret in just because the dog marked, and hoped it would get away, luckily it bolted clean and headed off.

A bit further on I came across a small pocket of rabbits, but I'd like to bet there are as many foxes about as rabbits with the amount of shoite about, all of it containing rabbit remains, think i might have me some fun on these over the next 2 months, and get the little terrier bitch started.

Anyhow she marked for me again, so i had to oblige and put both jills in. resulting in a dig. what fun!

At last the corpse!

One of the culprits after 40 minutes having fun, they didnt move once from the kill, these are going to be hard work in the future.

Walked a bit more and found a mk4 fenn behind a wall, set properly, but obviously not checked daily, with a poley jill hanging out of the cage tunnel, not good keepering going on, foxes everywhere, and traps i'd like to guess not checked in 2 weeks maybee, good job i found it instead of the public.

Anyhow, got a few more marks, and picked a few more rabbits up, the jills and terrier doing well, found a few digs from poachers as well, tbh they had done quite well backfilling until i found this, this takes 'Backfill Of The Month Award!' Bless, the poor useless fagg that must have been worn out with the deep dig! (Rabbits for scale!).

10 seconds later.

Dont worry lads, Brim'll fix it.

Anyhow, working my way down, the terrier was close on its rope to nailing the odd one or two out of the seat in the rushes, with a runner they would be in the bag, but good to see her called off running them, theres hope yet!

Then she took to the walls!

this one left in the boudary wall, more hassle than its worth.

2 minutes later.

Another one left alone in the safe wall!

Anyhow, 4pm I got back to the motor with the smallest bag of the year, but one of the more enjoyable days this season.

Think this summer i'll be walking the hills of the north for new permission, just seeing some of the bags on here of late shows there are still places holding numbers, I want some of it!

:yes:You did well to get away with that Brimmer..fair play to ya.. :clapper:

Had a similar thing happen a while back..

I was with a team of lads, hired to move a few rabbits off a Fuel Depot..

As we pulled onto the place,..I spied a trio of rabbits, drop into, a three hole set, so,.I said nothing and raced over, to get in first.... Big mistake....

You know what,.the second that ferret's tail disappeared to ground,.I fecking knew, that I should not have done it

The ferret had bottled up the three rabbits, and she just could not move em, or kill, em,.and would not leave,em...

Six foot down , protected by a girt big feck off Somerset Stone....

I remained on that cold old bank, for most of the morning, whilst rabbits were being netted all around me..!

What a god-awful fecking place it was,...still,..we all had an earner, plus a real nice Cider Fest on the way home, so,..there ya go..

All the best, CHALKWARREN..

Now,.I don't think you should have done that...

Jack you know those rabbits still have to be grafted for even if they are there, RD my old brute of a russel in his day would have dug the rock out for me! And Giro, i would have really struggled if it was 6" deeper, i had to roll it up the side of the dig and out!
