Starting a line usually starts with the grey or whippet, then the only time you'd really need to add a pure again would be if you needed some speed or hybrid vigour back into the line, though theres plenty of lurchers with speed enough to add into your line. Personally though after using the pure to start I'd personally wouldn't go back to a pure again. I'm not sure but I don't think many of the coursing lads use pures much in there breeding these days. 1 Quote Link to post

Of course you could use Whippets, Deerhounds,Salukis as the base breed... but why have we used Greyhound for hundreds of years ? For the speed, of course !!
