Ratsmasher 36
if in doubt give them a ring unless there is a specific reason why its not on there they will probs sort it without fuss Quote Link to post
GRAM71 29
from what i remember when i had mine... when i asked my feo what i was allowed to shoot with it he replied, "what ever you normally shoot with a sec2 shotgun, as long as you adhere to the law regarding game birds and wildfowl" hope this helps, gram. SportingShooter 0
Just ask for "Vermin" to be added as a condition and it covers everything. Can't shoot Wildfowl or Game with a shotgun of over three shots in any case. Quote Link to post
Froudy 40
I never knew that sporting shooter why can't you shoot wildfowl with a fac shotgun? Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
It's in the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 which restricts the number of rounds to three. Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
On my fac it states that the fac shotgun and ammunition shall be used for the shooting of vermin and ground game Do you not need ground game conditioned to shoot rabbits? Edited January 8, 2013 by danw Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
No, they are classed as vermin Quote Link to post
Ratsmasher 36
could ground game relate to hares? Quote Link to post
tegater 789
The good thing is..... That because vermin covers everything, it backs up what many say, and that is all you need on your fac for rifle, is "vermin" to shoot foxes. Foxes fall into the legal definition of vermin! Foxes fall into the legal definition of vermin! begs the question as to why some forces just say vermin and others specify fox as a seperate quarry All to do with the initial "good reason" This is taken from the HO guidelines....and yes they are "guidelines" Fox 13.23 Common rifle cartridges considered suitable for the shooting of foxes range from .17 Remington, and .22 Hornet to .22 -250 and .220 Swift, though there is a wide range of suitable similar calibres commercially available. In windy areas, where heavier bullets aid accurate shooting, or if applicants wish to use one rifle for shooting both deer and foxes they may choose a rifle in 6mm (.243/.244) or 6.5mm (.264) calibre. .22 Rimfire is generally too low-powered to be used against fox except at short range, but may reasonably be permitted for use against such quarry in certain circumstances. However, sole use against fox would not normally be sufficient “good reason” to acquire such a rifle (see paragraph 13.15). Quote Link to post
tegater 789
The other interesting one relating to sec1 shotties is this and I admit I dont know whether I am reading it correctly, but... 13.18 Self-loading shot guns (semi-automatic is defined in section 27 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 as holding more than two cartridges in the magazine and applies only to large magazine shot guns (and .22RF)) may be used to shoot certain pest species under the terms of a licence from either the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) (WLF 100091 in England, WLF 008 in Wales) or the Scottish Executive Environment and Rural Affairs Department (SEERAD), but is applicable to avian species only. Large magazine shot guns may be required to deal with serious pest problems with wood pigeon or corvids (rooks and crows). Quote Link to post
bird 9,926
Just ask for "Vermin" to be added as a condition and it covers everything. Can't shoot Wildfowl or Game with a shotgun of over three shots in any case. so just a norm ovu or s/s or semi 3 shot then shotgun. As i thinking what shotguns (W/Fs) use to knock down big geese.? even though i know its the size of shot in the gun to kill big quarry .? Quote Link to post
