tote 856
"he has been walked through them with a couple of good boots" A bit over the top Digsy. Just keep walking him through them and if he does show an interest give him a sharp tug on the lead shouting no at the same time. I'm in the process of showing my bitch Amy some sheep, after walking through them I get her to lie down and tell her to stay then I walk 20 yards away, usually the sheep come over to the dog out of curiosity.I keep giving her the stay command and she lies there no probs as the sheep sniff round about her. Then I move forwards all the time giving Amy the stay command, the sheep on seeing me advance towards them turn and either walk or run away from the dog, this is the time when a lurcher would usually take off after them. But because she is steady to the stay command she remains in the down position ignoring the sheep.up to now, everything is going okay. mad al 146
Excellent Tote , this is the only way IMO. When we had sheep on the land here and we only had one Rottie bitch, I used to walk her through them every day when I counted them, never had a problem and to this day, she always likes to go and see them in our neighbours fields. Mind you, if he found any possible "threats" to his sheep from a wondering dog, the owner would have a choice, shotgun or a visit to his rams . The visit to the rams would always be chosen and you would never see the dog on his land again Al Quote Link to post

Better than it killing sheep........ Quote Link to post

EOD 0
There is allot of sheep where I walk on my terriers, I got them used to a few basic commands also its got to do with the manner these commands are delivered the same way they sense the excitement when there is game near by. i was surprised how well my pup took to sheep at first there was the normal exploring investigating by the pup. But he soon learnt that no meant 'NO'. Quote Link to post

elma-fudd 0
i would use a remote coller if things where bad av lost the rag with dogs before and somtimes giving them a skelp has the opposit effect, hitting them imo looses trust. Quote Link to post
