ratpackjack 272 Posted January 7, 2013 Report Share Posted January 7, 2013 Was it nippy before you put it with the others? and i have one that used to hiss at you when it saw people as she was not held by her 1st owner, he bought her she nipped him he left her in a hutch till i went to buy some bits from him and ended up with her :whistling:yes this is what usually happens so wife says.But she is great now and one of my best workers and would no more bite me that fly to the moon,so a little time with her will go a long way just don't rush her. hunter96 13 Posted January 7, 2013 Report Share Posted January 7, 2013 i had the same problem with a jill at the beging of the season bite me everytime i when near her even just putting food in her cage would grab hold of my hand. waited about a week without any contact to let her settle down burr still kept bitin. it was my 1st ferret so i thought i had done something wrong. finally got rid of her and got a hob. never bite once till his day brilliant ferret. i guess hobs are just more chilled out but thats my experience everyones different. Ive had similar ferrets, both jills and hobs so its not just a trait of one or the other. Lots of handling, if she bites you or struggles dont put her down, only put her back when shes calm, as she will associate stuggling/biting with you leaving her alone. Quote Link to post

vermin catcher 219 Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 For what its worth lads ive kept ferrets for over 30 years and i have a jill i bred this year and she constantly wants to take my finger off (at the shoulder).She will be fine for a week or two then bang when you are not expecting it. We have all had biters at some stage or another over the years usually the result of the last owner throwing food in now and again and lifting the ferret by its tail ect ect, you know the drill .But this ferret is different,i have never experienced one like her, one day she will be a normal as the rest the next day she will go out of her way to get you .And im not talking a nip as you get on the very odd occasions she grabs on a shakes trying to do as much damage as possible.i dont like to give up on any ferret easily and im still trying to figure this one out but there can only be one outcome if it persists and giving this ferret to anyone else is not an option.
